I'm pretty sure that the DRL is controlled by a module. Find the part number and order it from nissan. Or if you have the auto headlamps, put some black electric tape over the sensor, so your car will think itz always dark. I think it might be a law in Canada that every car must have DRL.

I've noticed most if not all new American cars have DRL. Whats the difference between DRL and your normal headlights? The tail lights are on? Seriously, save yourself the time and trouble, set your lights to on and leave them there. The car shuts them off automatically when you turn it off.

The DRLs are set inside the normal headlamps on the front-end and have a lower intesity. They are directed at a higher angle as they are intended to make the car in front of you aware of your presence and not to help you see the road as your headlamps are.
Kinda like low-intesity high-beams. Leaving your lights on all day would not produce the same effect. Plus cars with DLRs and light sensors would automatically shut off the DLRs and turn on the headlamps when it got dark.
I think DLRs are pretty stupid actually.

I have looked into the DRL due to my passion to find a high-beam + foglight setting. It seems to me, I may be wrong, that the DRL is run through the high beam lamp but at a lower power... 25-30-40-50%? The reason I say this is that in both cases, DRL and high-beam the fog lights turn off. I doubt that Nissan would make 2 logical circuits when they could get away with 1. I had a friend flash the do the DRL - low - high transition and I could see which lamp was comming up and the DRL seemed to run off the high beam.
My 2 cents.

Yeah - from what I've heard DRL is indeed high beam light at a lower intensity.
Thats's why I thought, it would be a really simple module or fuse that nissan puts in for Canada cars and it may not be hard to get it here...
So, in your analysis, did you guys get the DRL to work as its supposed to ?
( low intensity, side markers/tail lights dont light up etc etc ).
Let me know.
Thanks !

...the other thing with DRL vs leaving your lights on is that having the lights on dims the displays on the inside, so you have to manually control your lights on the inside (you can turn it to the high intensity setting to see it). But of course that doesn't do anything to the clock.
I wish our cars had the DRL switched so I could elect to use them when it's foggy/rainy out.
Maybe I'll have to build something... Anyway to get the wiring diagram for those circuits without paying the $$$ to get the wiring diagrams or service manual from the dealer?

There is a law in Canada saying every car manufactured since 1990 must have DRLs.
The DRL turns on when your car is not in Parking and handbrake released(A/T only, not sure about 5sp). It's just a low intensity high beam i would say around 30-40% of the intensity.
I think DRL are good things since you know which cars are running and which aren't. I like the idea of DRL and I am glad that I live in Canada.
