Service Engine Soon - yikes
Service Engine Soon - yikes
Forgive my ignorance - I've read about MAF failures due to people monkeying about with the engine / exhaust, etc., but haven't seen anything about the Service Engine Soon light coming on in a car whose owner's idea of a mod is a new gear shift ****.
Coming home from work yesterday, the Service Engine light on my 2k1 SE with 27K miles came on. The owner's manual mentioned checking the gas cap and driving for a few days to see if said light disappears.
Can I hurt my car by waiting it out, or should I take it into Nissan immediately?
I'd hate to go crying to Nissan for something silly, but I'd hate even more to kill my Maxima.
Thanks

Is the light going off from time to time? If so could be dirt getting in the intake or just could be a O2 sensor going bad. Also a SMALL leak in the exhaust will cause that.
I would go get hooked up to the computer and let it tell you what is wrong.. I had the same problem, turns out it was a small exhaust leake, easy fix tighten the bolts and no more problem
