TSB ?'s for org members with 03 auto's

Anybody with an 03 auto take it in for the TSB03-023?? Yes, I did a search and didn't get my answer. My auto shifts very SLOWLY between 1-2 and has a hesitation in the upper RPMS 4000 +. I need some ammunition when I go in to the dealer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried to take mine in but the dealer told me that it didnt apply for me...Ive been noticing it a lot though lately from stoplight to stoplight when I hit the gas, sometimes gets annoying especially trying to beat traffic and change lanes...I might take it back again and give it one more try...

theres a thread on here somewhere that has the actual TSB on it..most dealers will just tell you its for reference...

Just print the TSB ( it is on this 5th Gen. page now) and start calling dealers. Good luck, you will need it!

Would a valvebody mod make any difference?

The transmission's response to throttle input is probably my biggest gripe regarding the performance of my 2003 GLE. The 1st-2nd shift under full throttle takes too long and is too soft. My bigger gripe is it's reluctance to down-shift to first when rolling. First is good for about 40mph, but you have to be under 30 before a full throttle punch will select it. That can make that 30-50 range seem very sluggish. Another weird scenario is.... accelerate normally from a stop, if you floor it just after it shifts to 2nd, the tranny may wait up to 2 seconds until it decides to shift back down to 1st, if the vehicle speed will allow it, it should downshift almost immediately without that lag. The programming in the control module is just too lazy. I think mechanically, the transmission shifts fine, it's just the decision making in the control module that seems to be the problem.

That ain't the problem. ALL 2002 and 2003's have the older programs UNLESS they get reprogramed and 75%-90% of 2002's need the 22608-AM600 MAF also, this is a plain fact. The difference is like day and night, doesn't feel like the same engine from the start to the end of it's power curve! Do like me and keep calling dealers till you get a good service dept. IT IS WORTH IT!

Only problem is I live in podunk PA and the nearest "real" dealershipis an hour away. Todd.... that's exactly how my car acts. If the dealer jerks me around it won't be pretty. I'll keep you posted.

I just called the dealer and they told me that if the check engine light isn't on then they can't do anything to it. They said if the check engine light isn't on then they can't get the code from it. Whats that about?

kcowden,
Yea, yours is a 2003 so it will have the newest MAF but the TSB still calls for a reprogram of the ECM and you will feel the difference.

VQ35DE, good looking out, bro! Hopefully they won't jerk me around tomorrow when I take it in. For the most part my local dealer(Hayward, CA) has been pretty good. I think they're really trying to improve their poor service reputation. They're always having me fill out their service questionaire everytime I take it in. At least they're trying!

I just tried to take my 03 into Gardena Nissan and the guy was having none of it, period, unless the check engine light was coming on. Got into an arguement with the dude. Spoke to the service manager on countless other occasion's, gonna give him a try. Why o why are these SO difficult to get done? Its a joke. Honda NEVER treated customer's like this.

I just dropped off my Max at the Hayward dealership for them to diagnoss, hopefully they'll do what I want them to do and replace the MAF sensor and reprogram the ECM....BTW, they want to charge me $105.85 for the diagnostic if its not covered by warranty, like I'll pay that! I'll keep you guys informed.

105$.... WTF. It's in the TSB to perform the diognosis on the consult! It tells them how to write up the service and bill it. There are ripping you off... I'd give them he!! if it were me. All they have to do is check the ECM's PIN and see if it needs to be reprogramed. Take in a copy of teh TSB and tell them to FIX IT!!! Good luck.

I did it, was worth every penny. I put it on a dyno before i went in and after. 30whp gain after the TSB, but then again something was very wrong with my ECU. The slow d/s betwwen 1 and 2 is normal. You have to pretty much floor it hard for it to kick down, and even then it takes a sec.

I have a late build date '03. Should my car still be brought in for a reprogram?

I'm not quite sure, but I think all 2003 maximas qualify for the ECM reprogram. I printed out the TSB, took it to the dealer and said my friends brother is a Nissan tech and that he told me they had a lot of luck doing the ECM reprogram. The service mgr. took the TSB and gave it to the tech, and they did it. They have to do it, just say you are experiencing a lack of power around 2000-3000 rpm. They should do it. By the way my build date was May 2002.
