Program/used 02-03 Maximas need advice

My sister's 92 Max had the tranny go out. Been looking at the 02-03 SE used program cars for her. I guess they had been in rental service-Any body know who rented them? Anyway the car seems an outstanding value. Lots of features standard. Probably the only options have been sunroofs and automatics. One had Bose, but it may have been more of a used private car vs being a rental. My sister likes the Bose one, but it is alot more expensive-also has leather. Is the regular cd player good quality? The cars going to have to daily driver in the winter and she insists on driving no matter how big of blizzard. It looks like the 17 inch tires are pretty sporty-can you get snow tires in this size and are replacement tires available? Can you replace them with 15 or 16 inch wheels. And the cars parked outside in a fair neighborhood-any theft concerns. I appreciate any advice. (To top if off, she wants one with dark paint-grey/blk/blue-all the ones I find seem to be pearl white-which looks good in my opinion. )

I would stay away from all ex-rental Maximas. Here's why:
Joe Schmo (or Jane Schmo) rents a Maxima and steps on the gas for the first time and is blown away by its accerlation. Because it is so much fun, he or she keeps doing it over and over again. Now multiply that by about a 100 and you'll have a ex-rental car on your hands. How do I know this? I worked for rental company for 2 years and saw how much abuse those cars suffered.

So the moral of this story is to keep AWAY from rental cars (especially Maximas) at all costs!!

I worked for a rental place for 3+ years and I know how we treated the cars and now I work for a comp that has me rent cars at least once a month for trips. There is NO deal good enough to buy an exrental even with extended warranties. Hold out for a trade unit if she wants an 02 or 03, they may be tougher to find but worth the work of looking. I have a 2k that my wife drives it was a lease turn in and we got a very good deal on it. Hope this helps. Peace

Thanks for the info. I found an old thread about enterprise/hertz cars and it had a link to a video of some teens trashing a Maxima on a dirt road. I'm surprised the Maxima is/was being rented...they seem pretty nice to be rental vehicles-I haven't rented a car in a few years-must have missed these on the lots?? Still wondering if they have good snow performance with the 17 wheels?

again, stay away from the rentals... I live in rentals when I travel (a lot) and know what I put them through, and my stories aren't HALF as bad as the other guys... trust me, the car may look ok on the outside but underneath it's been BEAT!

to answer your question, the stock potenzas SUCK in heavy rain and ANY snow. I tried to buy snows that fit the 17" wheels and would have paid almost $650, so instead i bought some nissan 16" wheels and snows for about the same money.
