Humming sound after the car has been shut off.
Ok, I have this really weird humming noise coming from the car after its shutoff. Its coming from the engine bay and i have no idea what it is. If anyone can shine light on this, with all means tell me what you think it is. Its worrying me quite a bit, it just started tonight.

I too have noticed a noise coming from my 2k SE after engine shutoff, but after careful listening I concluded it was coming from the rear of the car and seemed to diminish after about 2 minutes. It almost sounded like the wirring of the fuel pump, but I don't know why that would be on after engine shutdown, anybody else know???

there was a thread about this a couple of weeks ago. cant remember what it was but the guy fixed it. you should get the response pretty quickly here though
found it. here it is :

yeah i just read the TSB, but it looks like it could be a very expensive fix. It says to replace both engine mounts. Would that be covered under the 5year/60000 powertrain warranty? Is there a cheaper way to fix it? Im hoping so...
oh and it doesnt stop, it lasts for a long time. I havent heard it stop yet. Im worried its gonna draw on the battery. I dont have computer equipment either to see if its throwing codes. For anyone that's had this problem, tell me the solution. I dont want to have to pull a fuse and keep it out.
now would resetting the ECU fix this problem since the mounts are controlled by the ECU? According to the TSB, it actually requires replacing the mounts and that just seems stupid to me. Im sure the ECU has something to do with it.
Cavez, my car does the same thing occasionally. I found that the humming noise is the pressure from the fuel tank being released by the gas cap. Next time you notice it, unscrew your gas cap and you'll notice the noise will go away.

If the noise is coming from the front I would say it is the engine mounts,
But if it is coming from the rear of the car I would bet it would be the Fuel system, as there is a charcoal canister in the rear of the vehicle to catch and store the fumes from the gas tank, this can and will come on whenever needed regardless of the ignition position.
Hop this helps…

Possibly a simpler answer, couldn't it be the AC compressor? I'm thinking the noise you are hearing is related to the compressed fluid warming up in the system. Have you tried turning off the AC and see if the humming goes away?
Sorry to bring this thread back to life, but I was wondering how has this been resolved. Now that I hear someone else describe it, it sonds very similar to what I'm seeing, except the sound is coming from the rear of the car. Aussie, could you point me in the direction where I can get more info on that canister thing?
Thanks
Thanks
the noise is coming from the electronically controlled mounts. i had mine replaced from nissan per the tsb and the noise is still there. it doesnt make a sound that is very easy to describe. its not real obvious if there is any noise but if you start the car or even turn it to and then pop the hood you can hear it coming mainly from the driver side.

Hmm, going to have to listen for it again tonight.. But I could have sworn the sound was only audible from the rear of the car on the mainly at the driver's side.
