my max VS 5-series bmw...

Ok guys... couple months ago i wrote about a guy with a 3-series bmw...
but this guy has a 5-series bmw (old one... around 95)... so he told me that his car has a 3.5 V6 and it is a 5 speed and he was talking sh*t about my car... i was like wtf... you told me that you have a 3-series bmw... he was like "no i never said that"... anyway... my best friend went his house the some day and he saw his 5-series bmw finally... so he talks sh*t about my car... what you guys think? I think the 5-series bimmers are more faster than the 3-series... but i checked on the internet and i cant find 5-series 3.5 V6... i think the only 3.5 that i found was a V8 opinions please...

Is he a 528 or a 540? A 6-spd 540 will spank you.

There were other engines in for the E34 5 series. There was a 535i, a 525i, 540i, 540i mtech. There was never a 6-speed for the E34 chassis 5 series. You are thinking of the E39 (MY1997-2003 ) 5 series where there was a 540i sport with 6 speed manual. What Maxima do you have? Board member Darius pre intake and my car were equal when we raced on multiple occasions his is auto though. If its a 525 then you will def win. 535 is possible and 540 no way. If its a newer 530 or 525 you would win I think and an E39 540 then forget it.

Then my bet is you could take an E34 540 AUTO. Im not sure the HP rating on the E34 but if hes modified then watch out. I know someone with a S/C E34 540 that will give a new ///M3 a beating after 100mph.

I believe you can beat his 535i.. I have taken out my friends' 535i out many times before. E36 M3's that are stock auto are no problem for me... the manual's are a challenge. My brother had a loaner 330i from BMW and I spanked that (we raced obviously cause it was a rental) He was getting his 745 repaired.

Man, there's a curve before that tunnel. 100mph + GLE suspension + curve = death

The first year for the 4.0 L V8 was '94 and it was auto only, but the '95 and '96 MYs were available with a 6 speed.

Oh my bad on the 6 speed. I've only seen them with 5. Darius please the curve is nothing. If you said I beat you on an S curve on a track or up near sonoma that would be a different story.

There is a 530i too. But its an E39 5 series. The one Greek wants to race was before the 530 you're talking about existed.

The 535i was build from the late 80's to early 90's and the 3.5L engine was actually an Inline-6, not a V-6. BMW will never build a V-6 engine out of design philosophy. The E34 530i was the one with the V-8, and yes, that was a 3.0L V-8.

Specs on the 535i

- 208 BMW ponies (probably about 220 in reality)
- 225 BMW torque ponies (probably about 235 in reality)
- weight: 3500 lb
- very aggressive 5spd gearing
- RWD launch traction

The car would be pretty quick off the line. CarTest says it could do about a low-7s 0-60 run, but it runs out of steam beyond the 1/8th mile and finishes somewhere in the mid-15's. Don't think any 02/03 Maxima would have much trouble beating that.

yep....engine was too weak for the weight
only 5 series that can move fast are the 540 auto/6sp and ofcourse the M5(older ones too)

all the rest of the 5 series can be beat by an auto 2k2/2k3 maxima i am pretty sure

I think it would be a close race. Close enough that even if he lost he'd stop stalking smack..
