2K3 Accord faster than the 2k2/3 Max

There are some extra tech goodies in the Accord V6 6spd that the automagic version does not have. The automagic makes 240hp/212tq on regular fuel and 250hp/222tq on premium. The 6spd then adds a variable intake manifold, and a lower restriction intake tract which is probably good for a couple more ponies on top of that. So actually, I think the VTEC.net numbers are pretty realistic. It's actually under-rated a bit, probably to separate it from and avoid angering the CL-S guys.

Here are those two dynos overlaid....
Horsepower Curves:
Torque Curves:
If you compare auto VQ35DE to auto J30A4, the difference will be in favor of the VQ by about 40 fwtq instead of 30 fwtq because the automagic J30A4 does not have the better intake tract and variable intake manifold. The auto VQ was not "decontented" in a similar fashion fortunately. For reference, an auto J30A4 puts down about 169 fwtq stock. I think a VQ35 auto does about 210 fwtq. +40 difference for the VQ.

with two equally qualified drivers, the Accord Coupe wins in the top end category..
btw, the accord has no interior space compared to the Maxima.
I felt like I was in a 1998-2001 Altima (not interior quality, but space...the Accord isn't much bigger than the old Altima)

I can imagine that someone at sealevel 40 degrees out, they could launch well could pull off a 14.1
but probably a 14.19
still, that kicks a$$.

Well, both these runs were in 70's degree weather and not exactly at sea level. I managed a best of 14.6 @ 94 mph. I am automatic, and a 6 speed should be about .4 secs faster than me at least .

My best run with 19's was 14.8 and I only trapped at 93 mph flat.......Sorry to dissapoint all the big wheel haters. Maximadave has seen me run in person.

Haven't been here in forever, just kinda happened by. I know anecdotes aren't good for much but I took one of these from 60 up to 95 or 100 and got a car and a half on him. 2K1 AE 5spd, Cattman Y, UDP, ghetto intake and 53,000 miles.

To get HP you have to measure TQ and RPM and use an equation to calculate the HP. They give the HP i guess because that's what a lot of people look for. I know the y pipe on the 2k-2k1 adds some serious HP, but i think it gives more torque than anything.
Quick explanation and opinion.

Well, this thread got me curious enough to go out and drive the accord coupe with the 6 speed. Here are my results (exaclty what I expected)
1) there isnt much low end power, but the car does move smartly off the line.
2) from a roll, the car really moves well (thank the 6 speed for that) but the power takes too much time to build. If the driver didnt know what they were doin a 2k2/3 max would eat them alive.
3) From a dead stop, this car is a dead duck. The accord only has a chance if youre at highway speeds, where it can use its top end HP. Vtec helps a ton here.
4) as for the handling, well, dont even think about drivng 10/10ths w/o some sort of suspension mods. The car struggles to find grip, and i could feel the chassis flex around a really sharp onramp (I was pushin hard enough to scare the salesman).
5) as for the build quality, the interior is damned nice. It feels nicer than the maxima, but that is because the honda parts are getting more towards the acura level of refinement.
Another odd thing i noticed is the silence. Its like its an electric car, unless go about 2/3 throttle. At that point, the engine makes its presence known with a whisper of an intake note. Overall, its a nice car. Any more questions? Post and I will try and answer. I spent liek 3 hrs lookin the car over.

Everyone's seen it, low displacement yet higher reving motors usually put out more horsepower numbers than they do torque. (Think honda s2000) ....Where as larger displacement motors (engines) tend to put out more or equal torque to horsepower numbers (Think maximas and vipers and corvettes..)
Look at most truck or diesel motors... even them 18 wheeler semi tractors... some only produce a mear 250 to 350 hp yet their torque number's are like 400 to 700 lb-ft of torque... heck some produce nearly 90% of their torque at idle...
The middle ground is where I like to be.... (My 6sp 2k2 se will suit me fine even if in actuality the numbers are 240 hp/265 lb-ft torque)...
We live in the U.S. and so we can't run our cars to it's full potential daily without breaking any speed laws....
if only it was RWD.....

I raced my buddies auto coupe and we were even 4 raced. Its pretty much a drivers race and it all depended on the start. he won twice, and I wont twice...
But then again, I had an exhaust leak, a spark plug filled with motor oil, and 1/2 shorter spark plugs than stock...
