Ok this happened to me again tonight leaving from school, the light that illuminates the speedometer was out. This has happened a few times and always comes back but why isn't on to begin with. Tonight I used the dimmer to turn the dash lights off and back on and after a few tries it came back on and stayed on.

What could be causing this? It's only the speedo and never the tach. Anyone experience this before?

my friend's got an old grand marquis that did this often. he had a flashlight taped to his steering wheel for a while, then found that the fuse had gone out...replaced the fuse, and the backlights worked normally.

 

Yeah but a fuse doesn't make any sense. If the fuse is blown the lights wouldn't come on at all and if by chance it was, wouldn't more than just the speedo be effected?
