i was reading the manual to see what nissan recommends i do at my next oil change (apparently, they recommend doing each oil change in 3750 mile intervals) anyways, i decide to read through the book a little and i found out a few things that i didn't know before (maybe some of you have heard this stuff though).

1) a chiming sound occurs if the keys are left in the ignition and the door is then opened.
2) headlights will turn off, if they were left on, after you exit the vehicle.
3) if you open the door with the keyless entry, but then fail to open the door, the doors will lock lock (it takes 5 minutes though for the car to realize that you're not coming)
4) when using the auto-up feature on the drivers window, if something comes in the way of the window, the window will be lowered to prevent any damage.
5) windows operate for 45 seconds after the car is turned off. (i believe i posted this somewhere else)

i didn't try any of these yet cause i keep forgeting, if any dont work, please tell me before i tell my family and friends
have fun

They all work. The sunroof also has a one touch feature.

About those windows I read that as well, but if you turn the car off and then open a door they don't work (unless of course something is wrong with mine). Guess its 45 seconds as long as you don't exit the car.

I hope people knew about this when they bought the car. Read through the manual and it tells you very neat stuff. 3,750miles for oil change intervals are for extreme conditions. Its really not worth the time and effort to change this earlier unless you constantly floor and car or towing the car. The shedule B says 7,500miles. Most people I know follow this schedule. I change mine between 5,000-6,000miles.

yea, thats how they are, it works for 45 seconds, but the second you open the door, the timer is killed.

door to lock

Can you get the doors to lock after the doors have been closed? I know it takes a while and then the securuty system arms but it does not lock the doors.

silent arm when chirp is on

Another thing... I leave my audible arm turned on so I can hear the car arm from a distance. But sometimes (like coming home late and not wanting to disturb the neighbors), I want to arm it quietly.

If you want a silent arm just once (without reprogramming the alarm), just hit the arm/lock button while one of the doors is still opened. The car will lock immediately and arm when the door is closed, but it will do it quietly!

No go for me on your #3
I tried it out to see if the car would lock the doors by itself after five minutes and it didn't work. I don't remember seeing anything about this in the owner's manual. I know that there are Volks Wagens that do this.
Did anyone else get #3 to work??

works for me......

i tried #3 just a while ago, and it worked. here's what is says in the manual, page 3-7 in the 2001 manual:

if the following operation is not carried out within 5 minutes after pressing the "UNLOCK" button, all doors will be locked automatically.
-when any door is not opened.
-when the ignition key is not set in the ON position.

try it again warrlocked, it should work, wouldn't that suck if it was new for 2001? i doubt it though, it should work, be patient, it seemed as though i waited an hour for it to work, but it did. good luck.

This must be new for 2001 believe it or not. I looked on page 3-7 and there is a blank part on the left side of that page...and it mentions nothing about a self-lock after 5 minutes!

look carefully warrlocked, since the 2001 added the steering wheel stereo controls, it threw the pages off a bit, it will probably be around the right side of the page, the page that shows how you operate the keyless entry. if not, than it might just be a new feature for 2001. thats nissan for you.

Re: silent arm when chirp is on

Awesome tip. I left mine on silent and have to keep looking at my lights in the daytime to see if I armed it. Now I can go back to audible. (I hated switching back and forth for just one use.)

Actually... I believe the 3750 oil change interval

covers "most" driving conditions. If you look at the manual, it talks about short trips AND also towing and those sort of conditions. If you think about it, driving your car in stop and go traffic in the city, or only run it for 10 minutes a trip, you are actually putting alot of stress on the engine. The oil never really gets a chance to heat up really well and circulate, lots of stop and go driving is harsh on the transmission and engine, not to mention the brakes and so on. Anyway, in my opinion, you may be waiting a little long between changes for normal driving. Not only that, you can buy alot of oil these days that will run for 7000 miles or more, but most filters still require the 3000 mile interval.

If you want the easy way to silently lock the car...twist the key in the counterclockwise in the driver's door. Hey ..does anyone really still use their key to unlock the door????

Nope. I like the alarm to be on. When I lock it with the Keyless Entry, and then try to open it with the key, The lights flash and the horn honks.

Yeah but... what if you don't want the horn to beep and **** of your neighbors late at night? The lock before close method is great.
