Aftermarket Stereo Installation
I'm having trouble removing the screws from the stock HU. Has anyone else had this problem? I know this belongs in the audio forum, but I need the info quick and I haven't gotten a response in there yet.

I had same problem...either buy or find someone w/ a powerful power drill....i just took mine to best buy & the audio guy took out all the screws out for me for free....he was also having hard time & he was using a powerful drill

Damn. I soaked them in WD-40 overnight. Then used a hair dryer to heat them up. I went at each screw for about 30 seconds each to loosen them. Got one out, then two out, and so on. Then I got to the eigth and stripped the crap out of it. Luckily I was able to take it to Circuit City and they helped me get it out for free. Everything's in now and works great. Oh except for the dash kit. I was smart and ordered the ISO Scosche kit when I needed the DIN kit. All I need to do now is wait a few days for it to come in and my install will be complete. BTW I got a Pioneer DEH-P5500MP for anyone who's curious. Thank you everyone for your help!

Yeah those screws were a B*T*H!!!!!!! ... I was able to get all but 1 off with a hand screwdriver, holding the headunit hard against the floor pushing down... but the first one I did I stripped it a little, so that technique didn't work... ended up drilling out the screw with bigger and bigger drillbits until the screw head just came off (the rest is still sitting inside the headunit)
haha never thought of removing it with a drill+screw bit though... wonder if that would have worked better

Yeah, I had to drill mine out. For some reason, I think Nissan uses "lock-tite" on the mounting screws of their Bose headunits. Maybe, it's for security purposes...who knows!? Even a power drill won't loosen the bolts!
