Got mine today. Thanks.

I had these on my 1997 GLE and I've been waiting to get some on the 2k1.

  1. Remove three screws under steering column holding the column cover on. These are the screws inset into the deep wells
  2. Remove steering column cover
  3. Remove two screws underneath the top of the gauge assembly holding cluster cover on
  4. Carefully remove the cluster cover. You will need to pry at the top edge a bit to clear the dash.
  5. Disconnect the plugs for power mirrors and such and set the cover aside
  6. Remove three screws holding guage cluster in.
  7. Carefully remove the cluster.
  8. Disconnect the plugs on the back of the cluster. Do not insert the key into the ignition while these are disconnected. Use a flathead on the locking tabs if you have trouble with any of the plugs.
  9. Remove the clear plastic cover from the guage cluster. Use a flathead to pop the locking tabs if necessary.
  10. Press the guage rings on and ensure no adhesive is oozing.
  11. Reassembly in backwards order.

i dont see why its necessary to take the whole cluster out. i just removed the piece before the cluster and then the clear plastic. then i just pushed the rings in leaving my cluster screwed in.

Here's a 2K1 pic. I found the install extremely easy. Make sure you record the mileage on your trip meter before unplugging the cluster, you'll lose it. I also used Zymol cleaner wax on the clear plastic covering the cluster. It's so clear now I can't tell it's even there! SWEET MOD!!!

Sounds good to me. I just removed the whole thing to make it easier to work with the cluster outside of the driver's seat.

Where did you order the bezel from?

I was trying to decide between a synthetic or real aluminum guage bezel. I was just about to buy a real bezel from www.evolution-autodesign.com, when ICUlookN posted that polo might have gotten his bezel from www.autoaccessorystore.com (go to interior parts, then to more products). I want my guages to look as close to the pics polo posted as possible, so I ended up buying the synthetic bezel from auto accessory store last night. I decided to buy the synthetic one because I think the shine of the chrome rings will stand out better against the synthetic bezel, whereas the real aluminum bezel would look too much the same as the rings IMO. Hope this helps.

No don't take the silver rings off. You're just taking the clear plastic off the top of the gauges. You have to open the whole thing up to get those silver rings out. That's what I did at first and the new rings didn't fit right at all. Simply just press the big rings right over your silver rings, then put the smaller two on.

I think someone else already asked this. He said no, that PayPal kept his costs down.

Just open up a pay pal account. You can use your credit card to pay through pay pal. Its all the same, it just saves the vendor from having to pay visa/mc fees.

I have an 03 GXE and it looks like it has some sort of rings over the speed o domotor and rpm part and not on the fuel and temp part. Do you have to take those other two out? Little confused here.
