Road Noise

I have 2003 GLE and I think there is too much road noise. Anyone else with same problem or a solution?

Everyone notices it. My father-in-law's 94 Max is quieter than my 2K3 GLE. I think our cars are lacking in sound deadening material in the rear of the car around the rear wheels and rear deck. I say that because I notice it much more when it rains. You really hear the tires running on the wet pavement. They also suffer from wind noise around the rear door glass frame. The rear-view mirrors seem to create a lot of wind noise also, just recently did mfgs start paying attention to that one... BMW, Acura, Honda. I keep meaning to install some sound-proofing stuff around the rear wheel wells and rear deck but haven't had time.

road noise

I am in the process of installing additional sound deadening. I have torn apart the interior and it seams as if the doors don't have any sound deadening materials. The firewall seems to be well insulated and the floors seem to have some sound deadening patches, but they don't cover everything. I am going to be applying QuietCar coating and Fatmat mega floor lining. To this point I am waiting on the materials and have already torn apart the doors, removed the backseat and rearshelf cover, pulled all of the plastic pieces to remove the carpet. The car is really noisy now. If you ever go to remove the door panels, have someone show you the tricks, very simple, but it's easy to break pieces if you don't know how to do it correctly.

I just tried sound deadening over the weekend using peel n seal. I covered everything from the front to under the back seat completely with two layers. I didn't get a chance to do the rear wheel wells as much as I wanted to and I still haven't touched the trunk. I had also insulated the doors a while ago with a rubber roofing sheet. In conclusion, the car still has a lot of road noise. I notice only a small difference in noise level when its raining out. Hopefully when I get around to completely covering the rear wheel wells it will get quiter.

I sound deadened my max just on the bottom so far. From the firewall to the trunk. I ran out of Dynomat... I spent the extra money because that other **** is cheep, smells and doesn't last as long. (My opinion) I ordered more for the doors and trunks. Hopefully I can finish the rest this weekend. And yes I have tooken some pictures.

I also suggest buying some sound deadner in a can, its in a spray can. You can get at autozone/checkers. But I would spray this **** on the outside in the wheelwells. You would have to take all the plastic off and your wheels, I would also recommend covering up your rotors and calipers as this stuff can be messy. Just use a plastic bag or what not. It works and it also prevents rust. Just my .02

The windshield and front door glass are thicker than the rear door glass and back window. Unless the rear glass is replaced with the same glass thickness as the front, there will always be more sound in the rear.

Road Noise

Does anyone think applying sound deadener to roof would help any? How hard is it to remove ceiling liner? If you tap on roof with fingers while in car, it sounds really tinny.

I just covered my entire trunk and rear wheel wells with peel & seal as well. I only have the doors left. Once again, I didn't notice much of a difference except for the clarity of my system. The bass hits harder (its not lost in the vibrations of the car) and the sound is more crisp.

I finally finished the sound deadening project, coated rear deck, rear seat, Pillars, floor (completely removed carpet), doors inside and out, all with liquid Quietcar, then dynamated doors. Two coats of Quietcar. It is quieter. I can now live with it. Still some noise, but alot better. I think Nissan could have done alot more for sound deadening especially in doors. I even Quietcar'd the backside of all the plastic interior pieces. I put foam in the kick panels. I think in all it would take 3 days to do considering drying time of quietcar stuff. The biggest difference was the doors. No pictures sorry, no digital camera available. It was worth it.
