Ok, through 10 or 11 e-mail exchanges with mdeal - a very helpful person who has helped with the identification of this problem and a talk with Dave Burnette - also helpful and has come up with a solution, there is an issue with the AE gas pedal install for Maximas built between June 1999 - December 1999. If your car was built after this, you can stop reading now.

If you have one of those cars and want to install the AE gas pedal, you simply can't do it. There is a large black square metal plate that is attached to the rod that mdeal discusses in his very good instructions. That plate prevents the AE pedal from laying flat on the rod and completing the assembly.

I think the solution is easy - after talking with Dave, we can purchase a new black rod that comes already equipped with the AE pedal and looks to be a very simple installation as Dave described that it attaches to another rod that has already come through the firewall. Mine is being shipped now and I will install, take pics and let you know the outcome.

But, I did want to let you know that mdeal's instructions work perfectly for all 2000 Maxima's built in 2000 and beyond. Those of us with early builds continue to have issues!!!

Thanks,

Matt

That's good news, I suppose. At least there is an alternative to hacking on that bracket or the pedal itself, although hacking it off may have been more soothing to the brain after your frustrations.

Maybe I will hack it off anyway because I have had 3 straight nights of frustrations with the pedal!!! Thanks again for all of your help, mdeal. Further proof of why this is such a great forum.

Hi, I have a question, can I just install the AE brake pedal and leave the gas pedal alone? Would that result in brake pedal being too high to the gas pedal compare to the stock one?

Thanks

Yes, you just put just the brake pedal piece on. It looks kind of funny.

Here is the mysterious bracket (look in the mirror reflection) blackY2Kmax has on his 2000, built in 1999, which is absent from my 2000, built in 2000:

Thanks....

Thanks for posting the pic, mdeal - I should have done that. But that is the plate - if only my car could have waited for 2 more months!!!!!!!

And Wustylez, the brake pedal isn't noticeably higher than the sotck one when compared to the gas pedal - if at all. And just my opinion, after having it this way for about 3 weeks, it looks funny to have the AE brake pedal and the stock gas pedal, but that's just me.

OH, i dont' care about the looks, it's down there anyway, i just want to make sure that it isnt' higher than the stock setup, the reason i want to leave the gas pedal alone is i like the stock rubber feeling instead of metal on gas pedal!

Thanks guys
