It's a compasitor. Compasitors hold power so it keeps you from serging the battery for power and running down your alternator. A must have for big sound systems.

Philly/NYC potholes are nothing. Try up here in the mountains. I saw one swallow a Chevy Spectrum once.

I bent mine while driving on a two lane road. A tractortrailer was coming the other way hugging the line and being I had the car 3 days I stayed to the right side of the road. I knew a pothole was there but I didn't think it was that bad. Both right rims bent. I didn't get a flat though. I take some pics of the bent ones someday. I ended up only getting $420 from my insurance company for them. And as we all know replacements from the dealer are ONLY $657 for the 2k3 polished.
I actually ended up getting 2 with rubber for $450 from someone here on the .org So it actually worked out well.
