2K max Vs. 97 Prelude

Hey, my buddy has a 97 Prelude (not the SH) he has the V6 VTech and we both have a 5 speed, both stock......we keep talking s*** to each other. I'm almost positive I could take him....am I wrong in assuming this?

Yeah, Prelude will most likely take you off the line. Smaller car + better transmission + higher redline == fast off the line.
Once you get past 2nd gear, he's done.
Twisties are another story, especially with the SH.

Note: gsr < prelude.

Actually part of your comment is one of the great illusions of the Prelude. They are smaller cars but also surprisingly heavy. Actually only 150 lbs lighter than a 2k1 Max. That can easily be offset simply by driver weight or amount of fuel in each car.

0-60 on the SH is 6.7. that's like 0-60 on a 2k/2k1 manaul maxima. i think that with an auto you dont really stand a chance, from a roll at the right RPMs you can take him. the 3.0 auto arent that good 0-60 especially with that crappy nissan tranny.

Uh he is a manual as well, also the highest trap I have seen for those stock is 90 mph and for the Max manual it was 94. You will get him out of the hole he will come back as VTEC kicks in and later you will pull gain.

6.7? That's a little generous.
http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/u...ex.cfm/id/2265
I also remember car and driver doing a comparison test with a number of import coupes including new celica, vw gti, integra gsr, and a couple others. Prelude was among the slowest nearing 8 seconds as I recall. I'm still trying to find the article.
Here's some others tho:
http://sportscar55.tripod.com/honda/prelude/main.htm
http://juvination.virtualave.net/preludespec.html
http://www.supercars.net/garages/Moonracer/34v2.html

I did see the number 6.7 somewhere, but everyone else says ~8.
Car and driver got close to 7 out of their 2k max 5 speed.

None the less, it will be a drivers race. But when is it not? Maybe when I got the vette to open up with me the other day.

My prelude would own a 2k-2k1 Max...now a 3.5 is another story...I'd watch out if your friend has any mods...or any driving skills what so ever.

Actually the last test the Prelude(base 5spd) was in by Car and Driver it came in first place (Integra GSR,GTS,eclipse,GTi and one more) and did get the fastest 0-60 of 6.7 and was 2nd on top speed only 1 mph slower than the V6 Eclipse. this was in 2001 I have the article around here.

Is your lude modded because otherwise I dont see how, the stats and from what I have seen at the track proves otherwise. Manual to manual edge to Maxima and auto to auto definately maxima those auto 97-01 were dogs with a useles failprone sportshift. Im looking here at several stats and only one does the Lude touch the Maxi's 0-60 the rest its slower and slower in the 1/4 I'm looking at about 5 here.

My lude is heavily modded but thats not the point...the point is I don't see many 2k1 stock maximas running mid/low 14s...on the other had I have personally seen a stock 5spd lude run a 14.6. I'm not here to make a problem I just have one and know what its able to do. Also...C&D rated the Lude as the best handling car under 35k....I think thats saying something. Anyhow here are a few real articles for you to read....

Well Im glad your not here to make trouble most of arent for the most part but most here know when something sounds shady and stock 97-01 lude running 14.6 never seen anything close and low 14's never ever stock, so your saying a stock Lude is faster than a RSX-S (plenty over here say otherwise and I believe them with the power to weight ratios etc. http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread...hreadid=108705 BTW ive seen your articles and one shows 15.6 1/4 at 7.2 to 60mph and a 15.4@93.3. Motor trend July 1999 for Max is 15.1 @94.4 mph huh

I can not comment on the newer Ludes. I had a 92 Si and I can tell you I think it would have given my 3.5 Altima a hell of run to 80-90 mph. Definately would have eaten it off the line...both automatics..Honda shifted so much harder and faster. I have never had such a lazy transmission in my life.....My wifes Bonnieville ****s so much better.

I hope the Max tranny's are different.

Just out of curiousity, how far did you race (or to what speed?)
Was there a point where the prelude was faster? Was the prelude better through 1st and 2nd?

Sweet.
Nice job.
I looked at buying a prelude before I got my max. I thought the 2k max was faster, but I wasn't 100%.
I loved the way the prelude handled, but the back seat was useless.

Congrats on the win bro! I'm happy to have owned both a Max and Lude so its like the best of both worlds. I would have thought it to be a closer race but either way maybe this will just push you guys to mod your cars now!

Just one other comment. I bought a 5th gen Prelude in April and have been active on the prelude list (www.preludeonline.com). Though I have not timed my Prelude myself or taken it to the track, I have read that high 14's are obtainable in stock form if you hold the shifts to 8000 RPMs through 1st and 2nd. The redline is 7500, and it is easy to hit 8 from my own experience. Fuel cut off is 8200. Before driving the Prelude, I drove a 2K 5 speed Max, and it is hard to tell. The Prelude screams when the VTEC kicks in at 5200 - 8000 RPMs and is faster than the Maxima in that range. However, I think the Maxima is stronger in the lower RPM range.

Keep in mind that though the SH has the ATTS handling system, it is 150 lbs heavier than the base model.

Cool another PreludeOnline member on the ORG! I'm 98VTEC on PO. I'm sure you've seen my lude around. I'm almost damn sure that a lude could beat a 2k max but hey thats just me...whatever works. Both nice cars.

Absolutely, and with the Max - you get a back seat! Anyway, I think the lesser weight and better aerodynamics make a difference. See you around both forums!

Actually, you're good. The GSR runs low 7's stock, and for your Max being an auto, that's really good.

The GSR does not have the H22 though

Actually I had a lude but sold it because it kept having problems. Its was a 92 4th gen. with a swapped jdm h22 running with the h23 tranny( if anyone here knows what im talking about) Had full bolt ons, test pipe, ecu, clutch, and VAFC. anyways before I sold It I ran a 350z from a roll and pulled on it. before many mods I ran a 14.7 with a 2.3 60ft. My lude had more top end than my 04 max but not as much low end. Most ludes arent in the low 14s but some are, so watch out.
