Looking to buy one or the other soon and am wondering which is the better car for the next 5 years. Performance, handling,looks, stereo, gas milage etc..

Hate to tell ya but you're going to get mostly opinion here, not facts.

Here are some facts: TL better suspension off the lot. TL less headroom. When I test-drove a TL, I could literally feel the roof against my head. If you're a big guy, you'll not like the TL just for that.

I liked the TL shifter. I liked the way it handled. I hated the way, inside, it looked like an Accord. Not even a "souped up" Accord, just an Accord.

if you want an auto i'd probably go for the tl. it's got all the goodies of a maxima and more. if you want a manual your only option is the maxima, and the maxima does have its good share of goodies. i think a comparo of the i30 and tl would be a better..

5 speed auto/manual (vs .4 speed auto or 5sp manual)
optional navigation
rear vents
3 more hp
independent rear suspension
optional body kit (2001 maxima aniversary edition has a body kit though)
xenon headlamps

stuff the maxima se has that the tl doesnt:
17" wheels
white guages
more room

stuff the tl has that i30 doesnt:
5 speed auto/manual (vs .4 speed auto or 5sp manual)
rear vents
independent rear suspension

stuff the i30 has that tl doesnt:
2 more hp (227 vs 225)
rear sunshade
opt. 17" wheels
more room

Titanium faced gauges...

 

is not bad, but i love the CL lotza stuff for same price as max. go check it out. although it's a two door.

 

A Maxima to a TL may not be apples to apples if U know what I mean. kinda like matching Maxima to I30. sure for more money U would get the better car.
