Something Good Came out of Crap Tires

Well not really CRAP tires!!!
The Potenza's are pretty good in the summer or when its dry but Winter Sux A$$!
N-E-Wayz ... I think I've become a MUCH better Driver overall after this damn winter! And its CANADIAN WINTER too!
Having gotten to really UNDERSTAND my Max, how she reacts, learning Tell-Tale signs of slip and breaking!
I guess we're more LINKED now!
But winter still isn't over!

I got caught early in October with an overnight 1 inch of snow. I was embarased at myself. How anyone can actually drive in the winter (snow / ice) with them is beyond me. Your ABS and traction control must get one hell of a workout!

I have the same issues with these tires...just for fun I went to Discount Tires and had the tires "siped" and guess what? Less road noise, better traction in the wet and snow. The cars rear end feels better planted in the snow and more controllable. All for $10 per tire.
If you want to keep the Potenza's it's the best money you can spend.

I have never heard of siping, at least as a tire shop technique. I have seen siping on Michelin and BF Goodrich tires winter tires, but never seen them for summer.
So all the pads get siped or just the outter edges?
Since I hate my RE92s so much it may be worth trying it, if I can find it, and hope that it really scraps them so I will have no choice but to get some XGT Zs or some 450s.

All due respect, but Toronto can hardly be called a "Canadian" winter. Remember last year when Mayor Mel called in the army 'cause you had a little snow and the rest of the country just laughed?
IMO, anyone driving on the Protenzas in real winter conditions is playing Russian roulet. Driving skills aside, those things are simply a joke on anything other than dry pavement.
As has been noted before, the Max is a very good car in the snow but only if you give it decent tires.
But then again, it sure is fun to drive on the stock tires when you're sliding all over the road - it just isn't very safe.

What winters are you running? I am running 205/65R15 Blizzak WS-50. (New model this year). They are supposed to be a mix between a snow and ice tire. Having had Michelin Artic Alpins I have had enough of "ice" tires.
They are quite good but in the greasy stuff, light dusting of snow on a -15 degree wet/frozen road, it could be better, especially with the weight of the car.
But overall I am more than satisfied.

Am I the only one who has nooo problems in the snow with the protenzas?? They have worked great so far, I haven't ever slipped when i wasn't trying to. Actually, At my school last monday the idiots let didn't let us out early when it started to snow hard, and when we finally got out there was at least 5 inches of snow on the ground. All the cars were stuck in the parking lot, tires spinning, sliding around, no traction. Even the cars with snow tires. 4x4 trucks were the only things that made it out of there. Them and my Maxima. Those protenzas bit right into that deep snow and I drove right out of there without a problem. I don't get why you guys are saying protenzas suck in the snow. Is it just my tires that work great or what??

Believe it or not, I have 205/60/16 from CT. (Ice Tracs)
The tires are very good performers. Not a lot of road noise and very good in all conditions (deep snow, slush and ice). And at least 60 bucks each less than the Blizzaks or Alpins.
They are almost too good because it is difficult to get the wheels to spin or the backend out even when you want to have a little fun.
