intake harmful?
i took my car (2k max se) to this guy who is the head mechanic at nissan, and he told me that the intake i put, nothing big, i forgot where i got it from, its basically a k&n filter on the tip of the original intake with some other things, like a metal piece to hold the intake in place
anyway, he says that the intake is actually HARMFUL and DECREASES the speed of the car, too much air let into the engine will damage the pistons? is this guy for real??

How can air be damaging to the piston? Make no sense! If you're force-inducing the engine w/air, by mean of supercharger/turbo system, then perhaps that will wear out the internal engine components faster.
With an aftermarket air intake, it will NOT be "harmful" to the engine but may killed the MAF sensor quicker? As for decreasing in performance, it really depends on your the intake's setup, whether it's a HAI/CAI, temperature conditions, condition of sensors, etc...

the dyno on the WR web page says 7.2 hp gain at the wheels. that's impressive for any intake, let alone a WAI.
can't blame the intake for the mafs blowing though, that's nissans fault.

Thanks

the mechanic is supposedly hookin me up on the flushing of the engine, transmission, and changing the o2 sensors. hes also changing out the rotors and brake pads. hes doin all for i think $500. but he said that he recommends to put back the original intake to extend the life of my car.
oh and i think a couple of my wheels have dents, and hes swapping those out... i mean the guy seems like hes tryin to help...maybe i heard him wrong...does the aftermarket intakes put wear and tear on anything?
thanks for your responses everyone

No...well, the good ones don't. He's probably not nearly knowledgeable enough to make an overall assumption that all intakes are bad for all engines...
