Update to my PO420 issues
Hi all,
Most people that lurk in this NG know my story. I took my car to the dealership today and told them to replace the cat on bank 1. I also let them know that I had already scoped my sensors and know that they are not bad. I reminded them that the ECU had already been updated to raise the tolerance for 3 way catalyst effeciency.
I just picked the car up. They said that they "updated the ECU". So I asked, "so this is an update to the update, cause it's already been done". They said, "exactly...and if the SES light comes back on, then we'll be replacing the cat".
Sounds pretty fishy to me. All that to say, I bet you guys will hear from me again within a couple of weeks (with a PO420).

It was a little experiment I was trying but it seems that it just post-poned the SES light from going on with the P0171 code. After hooking it up to a graphing scanner and checking out he MAF sensor. Its was pointing out that it had a weak ground. What was done to counter this was basically I spiced into the ground wire from the MAF and ran the wire to a more solid ground. I then reset the ECU and let the car go. I actually did this on about 3-4 00-01 max's and even an 01 sentra that had this problem. In about 1.5-2 months I heard from them again saying the light came back on again. So that ground I added obviously didnt work
I was waiting a solid 3months be4 I posted about running another groudn to the sensor just the make sure this trick worked.I didnt want people on the org all over to be spicing and running extra grounds to the MAF if it wasnt going to do anything. After I got those cars back I kinda got turned off it and 4got to even post about it

So basically it was an experiment I was trying but I didnt get the results I wanted. So its obvioulsly out the door. I unfourtunatley had them go to the stealership and the dealer told them they all needed new air filters

The day after the light came back on and they had to go back again. 3 of them just learned to live with the light (as I have)
and 4th one is on a never ending pursuit to figure out whats going on, so I guess that about wraps things up.
