Whenever you increase the wattage that much as compared to what the stock harness can handle, don't even risk trying to use the factory harness. Eventually it will burn and ruin the harness! Why don't you just install a higher wattage harness and be safe?

Yup, standard issue with "Xenon" halogens. My freind melted his and has to replace the whole harness in his WRX. He is so bitter. Now he's like "I don't care about HID or looking HID, it's gay!" Well, it wasn't gay until you melted your harness, lol.

Anyways, point is it happens.

I see it all the time, you overloaded the circuit by putting in those higher wattage bulbs.

It is basic electrial theroy.

more wattage = higher current(Amperage)

higher amperage= excessive load on the circuit

excessive load on a circuit designed to run at 10 amps that is now pulling
say 15 to 18 = heat

heat melts things as you found out
