HID Alternative

HID Alternative
I just put "Sylvania Silver Star" aftermarket headlight bulbs in my 2k. Sylvania claims almost (but not quite) HID performance from the bulbs. I can varify that they are great, and produce the same clear light as HID lights. I would swear that I was looking at an HID system if I didn't know better. So, for you guys that are having HID theft problems, this could be your solution. But, the even these bulbs are expensive at $33 Canadian each ($25 US)

Ya, I guess it can't be as good as they claim. They look the role, but I guess they can't play it. Sylvania's spec's show that they are almost as good though.

if you believe a $30 bulb is anywhere nearly as good as a $100 bulb, I got a Brooklyn Bridge I can sell ya cheap!

Well, if you're anywhere near Brooklyn, you won't have those $100 bulbs for very long. And sadly enough, you bragging rights will go down the drain when they are stolen.
I was just laying down a suggestion for people. These bulbs are great for Halogens, and are near as good as HIDs. Do I actually believe that they as good or better, NO.

I have some nice PIAA's on my headlights and I used to have HIDs but the bulbs I have now almost reporudce the color of the HIDs which match my HID fogs, but the light output is nowhere near HID output.
That's how I differentiate between a car with HIDs and one that looks like the HIDs, how much light is being projected in front of it.

first of all the 2k2 and 2k3 hid's are a piece of s**t my friend has a 2k2 and they arent bright at all i dont know why anyone would want to steal them they look like they must be 4500k i just put the ae headlights on my 2k and ill get a 8500k aftermarket hid kit and when parked no one will know i have hids until i turn them on
#12
Uh, from what little knowledge I have acquired about lighting, I believe that an 8500k hid system will not have as much light output as a 4500k stock hid system because you're sacrificing light output for color, so all you're gonna have is a lot of blue or purple light to blind other drivers.
#13
yeah there is a thing called color shifting, as your HID capsules (bulbs) get older and used more the color becomes more blue...like it goes from 4300k to like 5000k for example...light output is decreased...so more than likely the higher temp you go, the more show it is but less light like guzo said
also comment on the silverstars, I had my friend get them for his mustang, O WHERE near the look of HID...it looks whiter than regular halogens but nowhere close to our 2k2's

Yeah the projection helps a ton, i had Silverstars in my TTZ and they where no where near the intesity of my 2k2 HIDS, but they where definitley better than the stock yellow/white bulbs. Because of the projection beam in my TTZ , the Silverstars some time shined purple, bluish white and even pale green. They look good in projector beam setups, but i have to agree, in a non projection setup the silverstars look pretty weak, there just brighter than a stock halogen.

I upgraded a vehicle to the SilverStars and other than a whiter beam, they really put out no more light than the factory halogens. The Eurolight Fusions I am running in my high beams are WAY better than the SilverStars and far cheaper.....

Eurolight Catalog in PDF
I'm running Fusions which are not DOT approved, but since they are only high beams, I did not worry about it. In my GF's '02 Cougar, I replaced the highs and lows with Fusions and they are doing a far better job than the factory halogens. Color is actually "more white" than the factory HID's in my '02, yet do have a blue-ish effect. Their SuperPlasma series is DOT approved, but more purple. Not sure about the looks of their Xenon Crystal's...
I picked mine up via SoundMike.....
While I don't have a pic of them on, they do look pretty kewl when they are off

I have 6500K Osram D2R bulbs with Bosch ignitors off a A8- used to work for Audi. The bulbs are off a CL-S Acura. With AE headlights on my GXE the lights give out soooo much whitness on the road infront of me that people blink their high beams at me to change to low beam- where I don't have high beam no more due to HIDs. I also have the same kit for my fog lights. HID theft in my area is not an issue- almost every other car in my neighborhood has HIDs. And even if they get stolen, they won't be able to do much about using them... totally custom, and impossible to remove with regular tools- especially the fogs.

From reading your other posts if you could have HIDs you'd have them, and this is just your way of trying to "look blingbling" without having to spend the money for something REAL.
