lowered but close to stock ride!

I know this topic has been discussed a lot, and I've done some search aroud the forum. However there are still no real answer for this problem.
I had eibach & tokico setup and the ride was extremly bumpy and just sucked. I am looking for a setup that's close to stock ride but lowers the car to make it sexy! Anyone have some any sugessions? Plz let me know!

I had H&Rs/Toks. Looked nice and rode great, no issues.... Not low enough for some, was fine for me here in DC

Tein/KYB GR-2 The ride is essentially stock, just with shorter motions and NO roll. Its perfect

i just put on some maxspeeds with 1 coil cuttoff on each. The ride is really close to stock in my opinion. I have stock struts BTW.

I have H&R's with Tokico's. The ride is so close to stock it would be hard to tell the difference. There is alot less bounce and roll though. The handling is much improved over stock.

You still cant go wrong with that setup, KYB is "supposivley" better then Toks but with all the bullsh!t every tosses around about Toks
The H&R have better quality the Maxspeeds, maxspeeds are basically H&R knock offs
If you want the slammed look then Tein is your choice, but the ride its exactly smooth. Doenst bother me though.

I have the H&R and Tokico combo. IMO this is the suspension the car should have come with stock. I dropped right about an inch with minimal sacrifice in ride quality and huge improvement in control and body roll.

I find it interesting that many of you like the Tokicos. I had them on my 89 SE with Eibachs and the ride sucked. Handling was great though. Being a little older now, I wouldn't mind sacrificing a little handling for comfort. Shocks are the only thing stopping me from dropping my car at the moment. I have the H&Rs in my garage and can't decide on struts. As far as Tokico blue vs. KYB GR2, isn't the GR2 more of a stock replacement where as the Tokicos are sport struts? I thought KYB's sport struts were AGXs. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I have H&Rs/AGXs on my 4th gen. The ride is excellent. Nice drop all around but not low enuff. Perfect for driving in the pot hole ridden streets in DC. Cutlr knows wut i mean. DC streets are ****** horrible and will murder a lowered car. Good luck on your choice VVDA.

I have maxspeed/GR-2 combo and it's stiff, not as bad as teins tho......teins are STIFF!!! and it's quite apparent once u get into a few bumps where the teins toss u around, make's u feel like ur on a roller coaster w/o going upside down and down a huge drop....

like I said, I have the maxspeeds and have ridden in teins on 16's and then on 17's and boy it is stiff...

I've been told by more than one mechanic and shock/strut retailer that the Toks are a better built unit all around. I had GR2s on my last car and they worked fine, just were abusive. I would have bought Toks but they weren't available for my last car. I think for the cost savings it's cost effective to go with GR2s, but last I heard KYB was raising their prices on the GR2s ~$100 to price them right with Toks (if not higher.) Given the same pricing, I would definitely go with Tokico. And, you are right, the AGXs are the adjustable 'sport strut.'

I agree....eibach/tok combo on my 92 sucked *****......altho I disagree in the respect of the handling...the handling sucked stock, and it wasn't much better dropped....

Toks are okay, but having experienced their OEM variants (e.g. Maxima SE) - i think it's about time to try something else.

Please help me understand how Maxspeeds with a coil cut up front on stock struts rides close to stock.

I don't agree

IMO Maxspeeds or H&Rs with a Tok blue or GR2 is your best bet!

thanks guys for all your responses; this has helped me to make a decision. I am gonna go with H&R with GR2 setup. I've had eibach with toks before and again...it sucked big time! And the toks blew on me twice; so I am gonna go with the GR2s for a change.

TRY THIS:
EIBACH TOK BLUES IN THE FRONT-STOCK SPRINGS TOK BLUES IN
REAR

I just did this last week and so far I am very happy. The ride is much smoother
close to stock if I can remember, and performance is sacraficed minimumly.
This looks better in my opinion because the rear does not have that sagg look to it.

Sprints are nowhere close to stock. H&R and Maxspeeds are as close as the come. None are as soft as the stock ride. Anytime you go lower, there are tradeoffs. How much depends on the punishment you are willing to take. I couldn't take sprints. I can take maxspeeds.

They just feel close to stock. i can't explain. Speed bumps feel the same t o me. Every freeway I have driven in feels the same as they did when I had total stock suspension. But the only difference is that they are a little bit stiffer, to me. Thats why I stated "in my opinion". And don't take this as if im trying to batter your statement

H&R's with kyb agx's

I've had H&R's on my car for over a year and a half with kyb agx's in the rear and stock shocks up front. True to what everyone says, sooner or later the stocks will blow. The front stocks are now gone and i just ordered a set of 99 fronts Kyb agx's which Jeff at max tuning will modify to fit the front of my 2k2. I just purchased from these guys in PA., Import Parts Distributor.
800 488 3618 ask for Mike. These guys were $20 cheaper than the rest and they sent them off same day. Good service. I'll let you guys know how this set-up feels. If you guys are strapped for cash like me This is the way to go. Ride out the stocks till they go or just save up and do all four. I got 1 1/2 yrs out of the stock fronts long enough to save for the new ones. The ride was close to stock in some ways but much different than stock in others. If one person in car it was great if more than one look out. Also I have 18x8's with 5mm up front and 20mm spacers on the rear. Slight rubbing with full load when hitting bumps on highway, other than that car handles and looks great.
