How does 3.0 Max fare against Thunderbird SC?

I was heading to work early in the morning, came up to a T-bird SC at the light, he looks over revs up, I figured its early enough, no cars out thre, I'll play along. We take off, I could hear the SC screaming the entire time. I had about a bumper lengh on him, which I seem to have kept the whole race. I'm fairly certain he was auto as he didnt look like he was shifting. I guess auto vs auto I'm not too displeased with the outcome. I just hope the guy doesnt think he won because I eventually had to slow down to turn. Anyone else had runs against these things?

I've owned a couple of them. 5-Spd and auto. They can be pretty quick. Top End is great (> 150). The problem that they have is at the very newest it was a 95 model, probably had a ton of miles on it. It also goes about 3800-3900 lbs. 315-330 lb ft of torque can only do so much with 2 tons.

Some guys get these things running 12's with mods. But realistically a 2000 auto should do pretty well with one. I guess I should know...

Hmm, I wasn't sure what type of result I should have expected.. My mods are intake, catback and a y-pipe. It felt like had we raced on the highway, I would have taken him by more then just a bumper. Still I think I need to get the vbmod added to the wish list for the holidays

One of the few Fords that I still like it the old 3.8L SC Tbird. It has a nice interior (for Ford), seats and package. But it never seem to get the respect that the 5.0 Stangs got within the domestic car community. Of course when the 5.0 version of the T-Bird LX came out, the spelled the beginning of the end for the SC.

Anyway, a stock SC will run even with a VQ30 Maxima but it has MUCH more topend. If I recall, C/D's Tbird SC ran up to 149mph.

peace.

They have about 330TQ. The S/C whine is normal on a stock pulley. Its just that loud. I'm suprised you got him like that from a launch. Also, their 2nd gear on the highway is something I doubt the Maxima can keep up with.

I was actually surprised too once I read the specs on the thing. Its definitely heavier but with 330 tq he should have had me on take off.

I've had a 94 V8 and a 95 SC T-bird, loved both of em. With a ported blower and some other easy mods I would scream around the streets much faster than in the max. It didn't handle near as well, but I loved those cars big time. One of the few Fords that actually had decent build quality. Quiet cabin, ran forever, can look badazz. If I could get a 95 5sp I would consider a second car...
