Car won't start - Is this normal?

I have a 2K1 5spd w/. 52K miles and this afternoon, it wouldn't start. I had been out of town on work for a week, but I came back on Satuday and drove the car for about 2-3hrs without a problem. Then this afternoon, I go to start it and it wouldn't. I got a jump from a friend, but I'm surprised why the battery would die so soon. It's almost 3 yrs since i bought the car, but i thought that the battery would last at least 5years without a problem. I dropped it off at the dealership this evening to replace the battery and get it checked if it could be the alternator. FYI- All the lights were off so it's not that the battery drained overnight

Let me know ur thoughts or if someone else has had this...thanks!

How often have you checked the water level of your stock battery?

My battery died suddenly last week and it turned out to be very low water level. It wouldn't even take a jump when the water was low. So after a refill, a jump worked. I ended up going to Sears to buy a Diehard Gold no-maintenance battery since I don't want to deal with checking water levels.

I believe average life of batteries is around 3 to 4 years. Even the Sears batteries are only guaranteed for 3 years.

Peace.
