A question on brake pads and rotors

If i purchase aftermarket pads for my OEM rotors (say i get Axxis or Hawk pads), could i re-use them when i go for slotted rotors later on. Or do i have to replace the pads again when i swap rotors? (assuming i may only have 5k miles on the new pads).

I know it's a stupid question, but i'm not so sure on the answer.

Thanks.

I'd assume so, although you might be able to sand them smooth after they've been used... not sure how effective that is (I should have considered it this past weekend when I got my rotors resurfaced... I put the old pads on the resurfaced rotor and it brakes fine, maybe a little extra noise though...)

Thanks for the response.

My breaks are squeaking pretty bad when i slow down, but goes silent if i break hard. I'm not exactly sure what's going on (pads? rotors? something else?).

Since i'm planning on getting slotted rotors early next year and will be replacing pads shortly anyway, might as well get good pads that'll work in both applications.

well, i asked the same question, and no one answered, so you everyone gets the finger
i attempted to answer it on my own.
what goes first, pads or rotors.....pads...the brake dust on your wheels, where doest that come from, pads, not rotors.
the majority of WEAR comes from the pads. yes rotors do wear as well, but the pads wear faster. with that, my assumption is that if you got new rotors, the pads would shape themselves onto the new rotors.
i asked this cause i have porterfield pads and i want to get powerslot rotors. i assume the porterfield will even out to the powerslot size, etc...
i plan on doing this...what do you plan on doing

I was thinking of the same thing, that is go for some pads for now (Axxis most probably) and sometime after X-Mas i get the Powerslots. Between now and then, i see myself putting a bit over 5k miles on the Axxis.

Thanks

mention maxima.org. there is an ongoing discount when you buy direct from them.

all porterfields are racing pads used mainly on porsches during championship rally's

i won't lie, they dust, but i could care less. stopping power is what matters.
plus, cute little FYI. spray some pam, yes the cooking spray, on your wheels and the brake dust will slide right off. you can either wipe off what sticks with a cloth in 2 seconds, or it simply won't stick =)
