had my car for like 3 months now and drove it only for around 1,890miles total or so.... and like for the last month i felt like my car was really sluggish felt like no torque no power.... and thought my MAF was gone... so i thought i'll take it to the dealeer for a oil change (cuz i heard it was better to change ur oil soon after u brake it in) and get my car checked out.... they said there was no problem with the maf.... so just got my oil change and right after i got it out of the driveway.... woah~ i felt like my car was a V8 or something felt all the torque.... i dunno... my max is my first new car soo i never got to brake in any other car soo i was just wondering if in a little while... is the car gonna become all sluggish again untill i get an oil change??? sorry if i sound really stupid... i just never felt like night and day difference just from a oil change~ thanx for helping this out....

 

test drive some other 2k2 and compare them both. It is too early to worry about the performance.

 

I do think you can feel a little difference after an oil change and my wife confirmed it one day. I changed the oil and she came home from work and took my car and commented "what did you do?" because it drove "easier" in her words.

 

I have noticed that if you run super unleaded (93 octane) and not the 87 octane regular, you will notice a difference in throttle repsonse. Its a much more nimble car when running super than regular.

I notice a subtle difference after an oil change in the Max. There was a much bigger performance difference after an oil change my '87 MR2, though.

 

you are not supposed to run anything under 91 in a maxima anyway...

 

Yeah, I've felt mild improvements in every car I've ever changed the oil... good stuff
Though I must confess I rarely notice the difference after changing the Max's Mobil 1 5W-30... maybe the synthetic works better even at 5K mi?

 

I'm going to have to say that if you notice a change in performance after an oil change your oil change was long overdue and you probably caused undo wear in the engine. I am not a mechanic, but if you're noticing an increase in performance it means that your oil before was in such bad shape that it was not lubricating correctly.

 

Sounds like you're really taking a stretch there... all cars I've ever serviced with dino oil have experienced such a mild performance difference after a 3000 mile oil change. I doubt the "undo wear" is anywhere near enough to worry about, and is probably "acceptable wear" anyway. But for the extremely paranoid, just run synthetic and be done with it

Maybe the performance difference is caused by a viscosity difference in the oil as it ages... i.e. the oil gets thinner. (? ... or does the oil get thicker as it ages?)
Who knows, maybe there are websites out there which talk about it. Either way, this discussion is best left to Fluids & Lubricants forum
