1991 Nissan Maxima ->1998 Honda Prelude -> 2002 Nissan Maxima

I started to mod my first Maxima when I was 16, I really enjoyed the car but it was hella slow. It had 18's and was lowered but thats about it. Anyhow when I was 17 I bought my Lude. I went all out modding my Prelude. I spent WAY to much money on this thing. But it was fast and thats what lead me to my current Maxima. I got caught speeding one to many times with the Prelude and my Insurance company wouldn't insure me in a 2 door "sports" car. If it wasn't for that I would still own it. I sold the Prelude and made a killing on it. About 3 months ago I picked up my 2k2 w/ 25k on it. I really like this car but its a slug when it comes to the corners. I must say I dont seem myself keeping this car for any longer than a year or more. But its a great 4 door for the price I must say that.

^ My old lude.

my 93' Sentra got jacked about a year ago so I needed a car badly. Got the 2k (daaamn, was that a difference). If the car didn't get jacked I'd probably be driving at least a '02 now. but oh well, I still haven't gotten enough of it, so I'm far away from complaining

*edit* damn it, wrong post, after reading all the posts forgot the "2k2+" part...

Stepped up from a 97 Eclipse GS 5spd(didn't have enough $$$ at the time for the GST). Looked at the Acura cl type s 6spd, but Acura dealers didn't want to come down on the price so checked out the max and loved it.

Ok...but what made you choose the Max over an Accord, Acura, Camry, or whatever?

Why did you choose the Max?

No...but for the non-PW types, it's a good measure of a recent convert.

PWs are hopeless anyways.

Mint condition 86' Mustang SVO, 92' GT before that, and 82' GT before that...

Would I have bought had I know THE TRUTH about the 255 hp?

Put it this way... unfortunately, I wouldn't be a member of this forum.

I went from an 1995 Pontiac Grand Am SE V6. It was a good car with very few problems. I chose the Maxima b/c of the HP and the looks. I test drove quite a few other cars along with the Max and none of them compared to the Power/Comfort ratio.

1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 with the 5.2L V8 (220hp/285 ft-lb).
That car was powerful, but not quick. I didn't want another SUV.

Looked at:
VW GTI vrg 6sp - almost
Subi wrx - almost
BMW 325i - couldn't go from 4x4 to rwd in the snow!
volvo v40 - didn't offer a stick
audi A4 - no audi dealers in town
saab 9-3 - overpriced

Chose the maxima (2003 6-sp), because it had good performance, and would be more comfortable on long drives than the wrx or GTI. I routinely drive from Illinois to the southwest (Albuquerque, Tuscon, Las Vegas).

Traded in 2001 Maxima with 85k miles

Prior to that a list that may be of interest, sometimes I had 2 cars at a time and those are listed side by side.

1998 Subaru Legacy Outback 93 RX 7 A ton of mods
1996 Subaru Legacy Outback 93 RX 7 " " "
1991 Ford Probe GT (a few mods)< 93 RX 7
" " " " " 90 Porsche 911 C2 several mods
1989 Ford Probe GT 89 " 944 Turbo S many mods

Have a cabin in the MI UP and love to snowmobile, that is why I had the outbacks, 4 wheel drive and I hate SUV's. Subarus are great cars but the 4 cyl non turbos are dogs. The 911 had the best driveability of any car, also felt like it was made out of a single piece of billet aluminum. The 944 was a great tuner car, it had adj. coil overs straight from the factory. The RX 7 was so modded out i was pulling the engine out to get it rebuilt (new apex seals and sometimes rotors and housings) about every 2-4 months.
Now I limit myself to cars priced in the Mid 20's and the maxima is an awsome car for the money. Hate that they lied about the HP. Now married adopted 2 little girls and the other car in the family is an 02 Grand Caravan AWD.
Sorry this is long and more than you asked for Ice.

Traded in my '99 V-6 Accord Coupe for the Max. It was great troublefree car, just could have used a little more power. Theres definately a tradeoff going from the Accord to the Max. Accord was slower, and really didn't put a huge grin on my face when I drove it. But Honda service is much better. The Max is faster, more power, but doesn't handle as well. The Accord didn't have as many "issues" as the Max does. But, when my Max is runnin right, I absolutely love it!

VERY very interesting!

Lots of coupes to Maxs. Pretty surprising UNLESS you got married/kids like I did, then it's understandable. Otherwise, I'd still have a coupe ala G35C!

had my parents' 1996 maxima auto
the dealer bought it from us, used part of that money as a downpayment for my 2002 6-speed with 21k on it. im 18...
bought the maxima because of its reputation

Unriced/modified 2000 Civic Si..

Fun car, but not a great highway car and I was tired of shifting. Also got tired of every punk in the world wanting to race. Insurance was getting outrageous here in South Florida.

Wanted a two door Acura TL, but a guy at work wanted to dump his Maxima, so I bought it instead and never regretted it....still need an RSB though.

You went from one extreme to the other. Now nobody wants to race you. LOL!

I know about the MX-6. It was a few grand more and wasn't as "sporty" to me at that age.

Still nice ride though.

Yeah...I get a kick everytime I see the one where all the paint peels off as he goes down the road.

You know that was Nissan marketing thumbing their nose at us! LOL!

I was driving a 1993 Ford Thunderbird V6 which was my first and only car. Started making some money and decided I needed a new car.

I was pretty much set on a 2001 Maxima or a 2000 Acura TL. I found a nice TL at the Acura dealership in Cerritos and decided to buy it after thinking it over that night. Go back the next morning and end up spending way too much of my day trying to buy it (I think I got there at 10am and walked out near 3-4pm.) I finally walked out of there and said "Screw it, I'll go buy a Maxima."

Head over to Connell Nissan in Costa Mesa and look around... can't find the exact 2001 I wanted. Yet they had a 2002 with the color/interior/trim I wanted sitting on the lot. Figured the Xenon lights and bigger engine were worth of a few more K and bought it. 30 minutes to fill out the paperwork and I was gone with my car.

A few days later I get a call from the Acura sales person, "You know, it was wrong that they screwed with you. I talked to the GM..." Told him it was a little late for apologies and that I was out of the market.

+ Yes, the 255hp number was a major plus vs the 2001 Maxima or the Acura - but even realizing the numbers are lower doesn't make the car haul any less **** (stupid filter)!

I had a '95 Ford Contour before I got my '03 SE. The Contour was my first new car and the Max is my first real car (bought the Max new also).

I've always liked the Maxima. And then the 255hp VQ got my attention.

I was considering the A4 (1.8) and the TL also. A4 was expensive and I couldn't get the options I wanted without going out of my price range. Then I test drove the Max SE and didn't even make it to the Acura dealer.

Love the Max! I saw a post up there re: people trying to race others down in South Florida. Its true. My windows are tinted very dark and on three occasions, all at night, I got race challenges and then I roll my window down and they see I don't exactly fit the " car racing" profile and they leave. Don't know what the profile is but I know I don't fit it.

The car I traded in for the Max was a 2001 Ford Focus SE, automatic, 110 hp, slow as sh**. However, other vehicles I've owned over the past few years are a 2000 Ford Mustang GT 5 speed, a 1996 Corvette automatic 5.7 LT1, and a 1999 Ford Lightning with some bolt ons. The L and the Vette were by far the fastest vehicles I've owned but the Max is a great all around ride.

Hey Neeferea,

I am truly offended.....Here is a picture of my (Unriced) Si, right befor I sold last October.

Made a lot of money when I sold it to one of those drag racing punks...it's probably wrecked now.

1990 pathfinder with 205K and had no problems with it and didn't want to buy another version of the same car, so it was the maxima, oh yeah, the 255 didn't hurt either

Drove my late father's 94 dodge caravan sport(yes sport.) I never paid any attention to cars, until I saw my friend's '02 6-spd. He had it tinted out and the six speed was sick. He needed to get rid of it quick and I was right there to help him out. No help from my mom, all paid for by me. Not a bad ride for a 23 year old. This was the worst thing I have ever done, I can't stop modding it!!!!

I had previously had a ford ranger (splash) loved that truck, it was mint too but didn't have a boat anymore so i was in the market for a car.

It was either the altima or max and i picked the max because it claimed 15 more horses, what a joke
