Guys,

I need a hand! Tried to get some help from the dealer(s), not a good experience so far (surprise, surprise).

Here is the deal: My sunroof is screwed. The one touch open and close is not working right. Neither is the tilt button or just normal operation. After about .5 second, the motor stops. I have to hit the switch about 6 times to get it to slide all the way open. Also, now both the slide and the tilt button will do both functions. Iim fairly sure that there is an board that is screwed somewhere, but I don't know where it is. I took the switches apart, but they looked fine. A wiring cable runs from the switches, but I don't know where the control board is located.

My questions:
1) Has anyone seen this before?
2) Does anyone have a manual and if so, could you PLEASE post or e-mail and scanned pages on the sunroof wiring, component location etc? I would REALLY appreciate it.

The car is obviously under warranty, but I always like to know as much as I can before I let those monkeys at the dealership touch my precious Max! Nothing like a new car with a rattling dashboard because of a few missing screws. I actually had a dealer tell me that they do not even have access to a manual. Needless to say I told him in not such a nice way that he would never ever get my business then.

Thanks alot and sorry for the long post...

1) Nope.
2) Sorry.

I suggest going to the dealer and having them check it out since you're under warranty.

and....

try a dealer that has a damn manual. thats stoooopid. You should go to another dealer.. really. you should also call nissan consumer affairs and complain about that kind of treatment. We all get jerked around, but thats just asisine.

sorry, no trouble with my sunroof either. I've used it 3 times a day for a year.

I had the same problem after about 2 weeks with the car

my dealership told me that he has seen this become a issue with the 2K's. Well all they fixed was the sunroof motor, b/c from what he said is that it had a short or something, they ordered one the next week, and in about 2 hours it was ready. But I had the exact same problems, both buttons do the samething.

Believe me, I am not going to go to the dealer I previously posted about. They can kiss my *** and I made sure to tell them that. I did get a different local dealer to send me some info this morning, so I'll give them my business.

Climax, sounds like the exact same problem as yours. I'll be sure to tell them that at the dealer.

Thanks!

Same Sunroof Problems

What happened? I'm having the same types of problems. They replaced the motor and now I have new, different problems.

Sunroof

My sunroof exhibited the exact same problems. I went to the dealer, the mechanic took a look, then looked it up on the computer (it was a web-based diagnostic tool). I am sure all dealers have this same capability. The problem is a short on the board, which is on the motor. Have them replace the motor.
They replaced mine, and no problems after being fixed. Hope this helps.

Jazzy8, thanks for the info. I'm a little concerned that I already had the motor replaced once, and the new one is wacked too.

There are some obvious problems with it, so I know it's screwed up,but here's a question: When you use the full- close feature, does your roof close completely (flush with the sheet metal) or do you have to hit the tilt switch to complete the cycle. I was told this is normal, but I don't recall my Max doing this prior to the most recent motor install - only had the car a few weeks. Right now the roof ends up about 1/4" shy of flush until I use the tilt button.

Not Normal

The problem you describe about the roof not being flush does not sound normal to me. I never have to "tilt" the sunroof to the closed position.
It sounds like the mechanic that replaced your motor before screwed up some alignment in the system. Take it back and complain like hell.

Ask em this...What good is a one touch close feature if you have to hit another button to close it?

Hmmm...so it continues....

Geez from the last thread on this Bert gave us a good point about the control board being on the motor.
Well I had two motors put into my max before the problem went away. AND NO your problems are not normal no matter what those guys are your dealer are saying. They never figure a second new motor is busted, lucky me the service guys decided to try and fixed it.
Javamax stick to your guns and find a comptent dealer...btw if any of you guys are in the NY area Westbury Nissan fixed mine. Otherwise you might want your service mgr to call them. They told me the same thing on the manual day one...so the second day I went back and it was done.
Haven't had a problem since...keeping my fingers crossed.

I wanted to close the book on this in case anyone else has the same problem. I turned out that the new motor was fine. They forgot to make an adjustment to the motor. There is an adjustment screw(s) on the motor (behind the switch plate) that controls the final location of the window. Also, if the closing position is screwed up, it can cause a sort of interlock problem with the express open/close switch.

Had This Problem Before...

I took my Maxima in for the very same problem last month (Mike Pallone Nissan, Springfield, VA). The dealer should be able to determine what it is. It's a bad sunroof motor.

I've read through the threads and this is a common problem on the 2K Maxima. The dealer was able to get the part within 24 hours. I brought the car back and they had it fixed within a couple of hours. I didn't run into any hassles. My sunroof is just fine now. And, the dealer did a phenomenal job with my car.

Take your car to a dealer with a better service dept. You shouldn't have to negotiate with them to get it fixed. This is a warranty issue.

The Maxima is Nissan's flagship car. Hold them to flagship level service. If not, complain like hell!! I'd like to hear how it works out for you.

...depending on where you are and where the part ships from, East Coast or West Coast. Guess I lucked up and got mine right away.
