Favorite RPM

Just curious..............

I usually leave gear on 4th while city driving, keeping it around 2500 to 3200. Only time I use 5th is 65 mph and up. How about you guys?

6400RPM...

Nah, I sit around 1.5-2.5K RPM in normal driving... not much torque available but it's good economy.
2-4.5K RPM while accelerating... I only 6.4K it while driving like a madman from 0 to 90

I am a mix of both of those because of the ridiculous gas prices...

never really rev over 4k, maybe once or twice a month....for mpg vs ga$ reasons...tho my last tank only got me 19.36mpg so i'm about to just say **** it and rev it high in every gear now

well... around town I like to keep the R's up around 3-4 k for xtra torque. I'm pretty hard on the max alot of the time. On long trips on the highway I like to keep it in 5th for gas reasons.

i try and keep it low, but always downshift when i need the extra OOMPF.

i found a cool thing, if you are just cruising at 40-45 mph, try switching to 5th, the rpms should be about 1.7 or so. and reset the mpg meter. and just drive at that speed for a while, u'll be surprised with the results....i was i hit 37 mpg...

When just cruising at 40-45 mph I keep it in 4-th at about 2500 rpm. When driving little more agressive - 3-rd at about 3000-3500 rpm in case I'll need to speed up without downshifting

Guess I'm the old man odd ball here.
I'm usually in 5th if I can be. I'll shift at 2500 normally, unless I decide to get on it, and even then I don't find it useful to go past 4k. I don't get any more power above 4k than below it.

<-- crusing at 40MPH usually stay in 4th gear @ 2000~2500RPM, if no cars present then I go to 5th @ 1500~1900RPM (No power, just relax crusing)

P.S. tried to cruse at 40MPH with 6th gear once, I mean I couldn't even keep the RPM at 1000RPM, I have to keep my foot on the pedal pretty good, or else it will stall.

Also to answer your question, my favorite RPM is around 4500RPM when variable intake kick in. (Injen intake helps too)

35Mph in 5th!!
Smooth driving: at 3K and all other one never go over 2.2-2.5K!!
Always downshift when needed, even if not too!!!

I've always have the habit of shifting all gear rapidely to the top gear!! Revving the engine for nothing (cruising at 4K) sound to me absolutely unnecessary except when a RiceRBoy get by me!! Then I downshift and floor it!!

I want to keep my Max for as long as I can. At least every other day, I hit 5k or 6k. I switch gears around 3500 - 4000 RPM. I've heard Maxima engines are good but not sure if I'm shortening the life of my Max the way I'm driving. Anyone have high mileage Maxima and drive semi aggresive everyday?

yes, i do, i have 80k on my 01 and i drive semi aggresive, whenever i need to step on it usually with some people in the car, i do, but other then that i dont really pass 3k, its cold here in the New England right now, so plenty of torque below 3k

Yeah, I hit 5 or 6k everyday and wonder how well the legendary VQ takes it. I have 53k miles on my max now and have no problems, but I do drive the he11 out of it. (90% of my driiving is in the city and the other 10% is ragging it on back roads for fun). Would really like to hear from some 5TH gen(or 4th gen) people with high milage who drive hard everyday.
