2K Max Gas Gauge Question

Hey,

I was recently looking at some pics of other max's and I was looking at some dash pics and I noticed that all of their gas gauges read E. On my 2000 max, my gas gauge does not drop to E when i turn the car off, it just stays at the same level it was at while the car was running...... I always wondered why it never dropped like every other car Ive ever been in, it just never really bothered me until now. Does anyone know why my gas gauge doesnt drop to E???? Im just curious to see if anyone knows why this is. This is what my gauges look like when my cars off:

Thanks.
-Steve

I heard if you do a 5spd swap it will fix the problem...

I guess it's just something new that Nissan started. My 92 Se was like your 00. My 95 Kingcab is also like yours.

i have a 2k GLE and my fuel gauge did the same thing when the car was off. However, i just switched the gauges to a 2K SE and all i did was change out each piece individually keeping the main part of the cluster, and now my fuel drops back down to E when the car is off.

My '91 kept the actual fuel reading when turned off while my '00 and '04 goes blank at turnoff. I sorta wish they didn't go blank though.

At least people cannot see how much gas you have in your car if they want to steal some of it.

My '03 goes to E when the car is turned off. Funny thing about my fuel guage is that, it seems to be misaligned. When my Max has 1/2 a tank of fuel left, you would assume that the needle would point at the 3 o'clock position (as if on a clock). But, it points between 3 & 4 o'clock. Also, when I fill my tank up to full, the fuel guage goes above the F mark. Weird

Yeah, funny, I had made this post a while back. It's weird. On my 2K SE, my fuel gauge returns to "E", when the ignition is off. I thought it was a "SE" and "GLE" thing. Hmmm?

That most certainly would still be an issue if I were still living in Gotham, but my car is garaged most of the times now, certainly 100% of the time when at home overnight.

My '04 also goes above the F mark when full. Perhaps that's where the extra two gallon comes in.

That's funny that you mention it. My does go to E when it's off. I'm not sure what's the reason behind it. Probably to fool people not to steal the car if not enough gas. LOL

Are you referring to yours, or every gas gauge?

I have found that the cars with gas gauges that dont go down to "E" when turned off also have and "air bag" light.

The cars with gas gauges that do go down to "E" with the car off have an air bag light that is a picture of an air bag going off in someones face.
