2k2, 2k3 bose question
ok, the audio forum is a ghost town, so i'll post here.
i recently tried out a 2k2 bose w/6cd in-dash in my 2k. (works with my stock harnesses btw) but when i put the volume up past 18, the amp seems to cut out and all i get is progressively louder static. the music volume doesn't seem to get any louder, just static. same with cds and radio. it's such that i can't hear a thing at highway speeds.
anyone else have that problem? solutions??

omg i feel dumb. after all the reading i did on this thing, i somehow missed that. so, if i get a 4 channel amp all's good??? how does the stock bose amp install? does it i go in remotely and then have wiring harnesses come all the way back to the h/u or does it mount somewhere inside the center stack??
igor, weren't you the one i spoke to a while back regarding the stillen cd rotors?? what'd you finally decide to do about that?? cuz one of my rears is scored too. but no problems so far.
and how much for the stock amp? got stock harnesses???
thanks guys.

The Bose amp mounts under the rear deck on the passenger side. The outputs from the radio go to the amp, then all speakers hook up to the amp. The amp also has a "summed" non fading output for the subwoofer. You can do it, but it's gonna take some extra parts. If you are car stereo savy, it won't be that bad. If you aren't, find a good stereo shop. I think the Bose head units are about 5V out. But Bose radios use DC Offset on their outputs therefore making them tricky to add aftermarket amps to.

5v eh? will an amp with 4v pre-ins work? and what's dc offset?
specifically, i was looking to use the Alpine MRP-F240

and i thought it was advised not to mount amp under the rear decks cuz the heat would rise.

That amp should be fine. You can mount it under a front seat. I was just saying where Nissan put the Bose amp. As far as interfacing it with the Bose radio, you will need an adapter. PAC and Soundgate both make adapters that will work. The people at Cruthfeild will know which to send you when you buy the amp.

The car isn't going to be prewired for the Bose amp. What you are going to need is an adapter that will take the Bose radio outputs and make them a true pre-amp output. A number of companies make them. You are going to have to cut the speaker wires behind the radio at the plug. The adapter will be wired to the radio side of the cut wires. The adapter will have 4 pre out plugs on it. The other side of the cut wires(car side) will be your 4 speakers. It really isn't that bad, but I have alot of experience in car sound so I guess it seems easy to me. You can also try local stereo shops or a local Circuit City for the adapters. Chances are that they will have what you need. I know the Circuit City by me carries the adapter you will need. I don't have a part number though. Let me know if I can help out. I'll try the best that I can here.

ok. i know exactly what you mean. i was thinking that same thing. i was just confused with all the posts and pms about pre-wiring and existing harnesses. so it seems that all i need to do then is get the adapters to make true pre-outs then wire normally to an amp then run speaker wires back to behind the center stack where the stock speaker wire are.
right??
right??
