Do you guys get this?

I've recently (due to cooler temps) have been "practicing" my take off at street light. Trying to see how quickly i get to 60 and how much gas i should give it to get there quickly.........well i've noticed about 3 -4 times that i'll chirp the wheels when the car shifts from 1st -2nd. I first thought it might be the road (uneven) but now i've done it on different roads. Also, i've have another passenger and he was like "What was that?". I told him, yea it's called POWER I don't have any mods on the car at all!

Do you think it's wheel spin and the wheels are jumping up and down? Trying to grip the ground? I don't/haven't noticed any steering jitter or anything like that. What do you think it is?

Do you notice a jolt when it shifts also? or is it a smooth shift with just the noise of the wheels on the pavement.

Just the sudden squeal of the tires. Not like a burn out but just a small noticeable chirp. Shifting is smooth to me, nothing out of the ordinary.

It should do that. With my manual 2k, I can get a chirp going to third as well.

I test drove an auto before buying my manual. I got it's tires to chirp in second. Any powerful car should be able to do that under heavy acceleration.

I have Nitto 555's. I can't chirp in any gear. 01' Auto. When I had the Potenzas, however, I could spin through first gear. I blew a MAF last year and had it replaced. The car hasn't been the same since.

I can chirp 2nd on my auto as well - but that was when i had my Potenza's.

With the HTR+ i just feel more pull now that the tires can grip the asphalt better.

Im in the same boat as Mike. When I first bought my HTR+ I couldn't light them up as easily as my Potenza RE92, coming off a light or a slight roll. I thought the car was acting up, but in reality, I was just hooking up like a bat outta h e ll. Cut 2.2xx 60' like crazy with these new tires.

As far as you being able to chirp second, if you can do that consistently, its probably 1 of 3 things.

1) When you chirp the 1-2, your powertrain is still cold, fluids are not yet circulating,
2) Your 1-2 shift is somehow delayed, slipping perhaps, so when the tranny finally goes into 2nd, the rpm's are higher than they should be, causing you to bark the dogs in second.
3) You have a freak car from the factory

Oh, and being able to chirp 2nd gear in an AUTO doesn't necessarily equate to quicker 0-60 or 1/4. If your tranny is indeed acting up, it will make your times worse actually.

Also, if you only hear a momentary chirp upon take-off, it's because your TCS is on and begins retarding power to minimize wheelspin once it is detected. In addition, are you manually shifting your auto? That may contribute to the chirp between 1st and 2nd.

I can chirp the tire on my mom Ford Contour Auto!! Surprising!! Maybe not, slow tranny is the key!!

Hope for you that's the third choice
