Need For Speed.........................or power

I just got eaten by an older model Subaru (I think it's Impreza). Didn't seem like he had anything except exhaust and maybe boost controller. Didn't see any gauges. He had me right off the line (darn AWD). I thought I was catching up till he hit his brakes at about 65 mph. I need to get some new tires cause these factory tires were spinning through entire 1st gear. How many hp do Imprezas have? I wish we could have kept going to see if my Max was mighty enough to catch up to him. Time to start saving money for a supercharger I guess.

Note: Street was clear; 2 lanes each way w/ a median. First time racing w/ my Maxima. Just wanted to see what my Maxima was capable of doing. Drive safely people.

No older Imprezza should have more than 165 hp. I think an older legacy had a turbo for about 2 years (late 80's early 90's). I had three subies, nice but verry sloooow. But when the streets were even slightly damp, I could out accel many a Mustang GT. It was either the wheelspin, or he put a turbo on it. It is hard to beat a turbo on a cool Motown night.
They also made a SVT? I think it was, with 6 cylinder perhaps 210 horse. That and AWD could have gotcha. It had goofy side windows. The windows flowed into the roof, but only a smaller portion (window within a window) rolled up and down. Pretty nice car actually for its day but suffered from a lot of tranny probs.

The AWD Impreza WRX's are no joke. I made the mistake of trying one on for size a week ago. I came out sorta half-hearted from the light (didn't know he would be eager to run, it was 820 am) and he jumped me out of the hole. By 60, he was very slowly walking me. His car was stick, and he put two cars on me in that short span. First loss on the street.

No discussion of street racing is allowed, btw. The above story is a figment of my imagination.

Even the ImpreZa 2.5 GT's can be very quick modded(alot of aftermarket) Remember before the WRX many Subaru guys were dumping mad dough to get their cars as fast as the jap spec impreza's

If it was 2.0 WRX than he would smoke you but the 2.5 RS should not stand a chance. If you said that u spun your tires all through the 1st gear than you would definitely loose. I did that when racing my buddy's 97 max. I usually smoked him by 5 cars with a good launch but one time when I spun my tires all the way through 1st he was gone he had like 5 cars on me and I couldnt catch up. Once second kicks in and you are only going 5-10 mph and your tires are still spinning you are done.

I'm pretty sure it was a turbo cause as soon as he hit 3rd gear, he was pulling away.

Whether he was or not, wheelspin =
The race would have been a lot closer if those tires were gripping, and not spinning 100 times in just a 10 feet.
