Goin against the norm: Yellow fogs vs. HID lookalike
Well ya its another fog light thread, but I havent seen any of the Max's here with anything but stock fogs or blue/white aftermarkets. I'm a big fan of the Lexus look with the IS300 HID lows/Yellow fogs. Anyone done this on their Maxima? I'd like to see it before I order bulbs (again - just blew a Xenon one). Thanks ya'll

There are a number of people that have attempted this with minimal success. The PIAA crystal ions are nowhere near the Lexus yellow that you are looking for. Some people have purchased yellow film to go over the fogs and even that is a pale lemon yellow. I think POLO? has given the best effort, look him up. He had pics on his page last time I looked. I have the crystal ions and I'm not crazy about them. The light that is produced is yellow, but it looks nothing like an IS300.

I like that look too. PIAA makes some Yellow ION crystal fogs that will fit the Maximas that would be badass...

You don't have to have the covers on. They would look sweet I think. These are the lamps, not just the bulb. For the Ion Crystals they have very bright lights and there is a filament on the glass that converts the color. It's not just a bulb insert.

This is actually much more simple than you would think. In order to get the true Ion Yellow look of the IS300 your going to need to get projectors mounted in your fogs. Thats because the IS uses projectors rather than reflectors. On the other hand the GS300/400 use a reflector based housing. Most people think that they use Yellow bulbs but thats wrong. They use a bulb cover. This slides over the bulb and attaches to it. It will make all the light look yellow. Which is much better for snow/rain. What I did in my Prelude was get ahold of a set of these covers. I have pics below of what they look like as well as the output on my car. I was thinking of using them on the Max but I think i'll just get another set of HID's. I personally like the look of HID/Yellow. It makes the car stand out more than you think.

IS300 fogs have a yellow diffuser cap built in to the lights and if you use a regular holgen bulb which is yellowish to begin with, it comes out very yellow. I have the PIAA Ion crystal on mine. I Like it but its not as yellow but I'm in the process of adding a yellow film over the foglight and see if it will make it any more yellow than what I've got.

yeah, i had 2 ways of doing this "look"
narva golds or color film.....the color film looked VERY nice. and it did give me that is300 look. it's much stronger than you think. only reason i can never give you a good shot is cause my camera doesnt' catch yellow very well (that's a tough color, represents sunlight, so it's almost minimized) but the yellow is much stronger.
narva golds are also very good. they come in 85w, but i had them on my fogs with no problems. they are the strongest yellow bulbs that i know. i tried to do the best of both worlds thing and i ended up burning the film. the best (and ironically the cheapest in $$$) to do is to get the film (google search "laminx" or "lamin-x") and use your oem bulbs. i would imagine maybe some sylvania's might improve it, but you do NOT want to power more than 35w. i was on 85, maybe 55 will work, but the film burnt to a crisp on 85, which is why if you see my car, i have no film (ordering tonite).
but with the oem bulbs and the film, i was getting a very strong yellow, both looking at the car with them on, and when the light shined onto the street.

plus, this is like cheaper....
i had them and i though i could get a richer yellow. the film, in eyes, give a richer, more intense color.

I think going w/ the piaa ion crystals w/ lamin-x would be a good option. One of my piaas blew, and I replaced it w/ the stock bulb. The piaa side is much more yellow than the stock bulb. Will take pix. But you know how there's a tinge of purple at certain angles w/ the piaa? guess what purple light and yellow film makes... a hint of green, but at very small angles of incidence. Also, the beam pattern on the piaa is more dispersed.

I had a friend that worked at Lexus a while back he got them for me. According to him you can't just buy the bulb covers you need the whole fog light. I'll see what I can to do to get more of them. They also come stock in the following cars, JDM ITR, G2 Integra, Acura Viger/Legend, Infiniti QX4/5, and a few others search ebay they might pop up.

I'll do my best to locate some guys. They do just clip on over the H3 bulb. Its a perfect fit. You may have to make the whole to the fog light bulb a bit wider but thats about it. They sell for $75+ on G2IC forum, as well as HondaTech. So they aren't cheap. But by the time you pay for Narvas and film you might as well buy the covers. They look so much better.

I also put on the yellow LaminX covers on my fogs. They are pretty yellow when used with the stock bulbs.

I'm sure a GD on these would make a killing!!!! I'm pretty sure a lot of .org members would get in on this, especially considering how long we've been trying to get a true yellow fog.
