Slip feature on 5th gener...?

Hey, guys...If you don't already know by now, it's a blizzard down hear on the east coast. I had to leave and park my car about 15 miles from where I live! I had bought this 2KSE back in the summer, so tonight was the first test to drive it through snow. Well, one thing I hate about this car, as compared to when I had my '95, is this "slip" differential. When the front wheels senses the wheels are spinning, it seems all the power is cut off the wheels. I can't climb hills, because I can't make the wheels spin fast enough to grind away the snow so I can hit the pavement and be on my way! All I see is my dash flashing "slip", "slip", "slip". Is there any way I can turn this feature off, to get more power to the wheels? I know it's not my tires, becuase I had just bought new tires two weeks ago. What does that "TCS" button do on the right side of the dash?

Dude, the TCS button is your Traction Control. Turn it on or off when needed.

yea.. most likely, its on b/c if it was off, it would say so on the bottom right side of the dash. And if ur slippin, its probably b/c of ur tires. If ur running on those Potenza's, u got a problem my friend. (Check ur treads)

At first you said slip (as in limited slip). But this is totally about traction control.
And if you are due for a lot of snow this winter and ya got the Potenza's you are in for a miserable time. Try to run some different rubber for the winter. Oh and in the rain they can scare the livin cr*p out of you also.

Hey, thanks for all of your replies. Yeah, when I had bought the car, it had one set of Potenzas on the rear, and a brand new set of Goodyear RS-A's on the front. I ran the Potenzas up until a couple of weeks ago, and trashed them after hearing horror stories on their performance. I bought those Dunlops Winter Sport M3's winter tires from Tire Rack. They work fine, except I couldn't get my car out of slip mode. By any chance, is there any way of damaging the car if you continue to run the slip mode on when your slipping and sliding? I was running the h*ell out of it.

there is a switch on the dash left of the steering wheel its marked TCS. press the button and you should see the tcs off light turn on on the right side of the cluster. The default setting every time you start the car is TCS on.

good luck, Im in NJ and we are getting hit bad as well.

BTW, the idea is not to grind the snow down to the pavement. Spinning the tires=friction=heat=ice=more spinning=going nowhere. The whole science of winter driving is based on driving smoothly and minimizing the amount of drastic inputs, be it with the brakes, gas or steering.
