How much do the OEM 17''s for the 2k2 GLE weigh?

Any idea what the weight is for my wheels? I got the GLE partly because I think the wheels look fresh but for curiosities sake I would like to know just how much unsprung weight I could lose with a set of aftermarkets. Just lookin down the road...

My SE 17's weighed 24 and a half. Here is a great if not one of the only places to loose huge unsprung AND rotational weight. My centerline forged are 14lbs.
The rota's I bought for the winter are 15 lbs. The Rota's (Slipstream, Circuit 10, Subzero) are a huge bang for the buck Around $500.
Sold my stock wheels on ebay (they were TE's though) for just under $900. That helped make the other wheel buys easy on the wallet.
Compact Sports car mag. or what ever it is named weighed about 250 wheels. It was about last may's issue.
What an eye opener!
Sorry i did not answer on the GLE's, dont know but I am sure they are about the same.

I've got a feeling they're pretty heavy... upon close inspection they are kinda thick. Those wide bars add quite a bit of mass that is missing from the SE wheel. But I think the GLE wheels are nicer looking. Somehow the radiating bars create an illusion that it is a bigger wheel than the SE. I know it isnt but it still looks that way to me.

Yeah I thought I read that somewhere. But I think the overall mass of the GLE wheel is more because of the extra bar and bar width. BTW what does the offset refer to? I'm unsure.

Offset I beleive is the amount in MM that the mounting face is offset frorm the wheels center. 40's stick out further than 45's for example

My SE 17" with nitto tires weigh 45 lbs. Not sure how they compare to the GLE.

By contrast my snow tires on 15" steel wheels weigh 27 lbs. And you can feel a big difference.

45 pounds??!!? Whoa.... thats a shock. Aren't the wheels on the 350 track model 18'' Rhys Millen alloys? Those should be lots lighter even if they are an inch bigger. Would those fit? Price is probably through the roof...

Ya they are a bit chunky. I'd like to get some 15-18 pound 5 spokes this summer. That would cut around 10 pounds or so per wheel. And reducing the moment of inertia for each wheel by around 10 pounds would make a nice difference in acceleration. (Would figure it out, but Physics exam isnt till Saturday, so I'm no in that mode yet)

I remember weighing one of my RE 92 and it was either 23 or 25 pounds cant remember.

I weighed them on a bathroom scale, so probably +/- a couple lbs. They actually are lighter now, I have smaller tires on them now (and my speedo is off by 5mph).

And yes, the moment of inertia makes a considerable difference! You CAN feel it. My car jumps off the line much quicker, and it feels lighter on its feet. Of course the the Nitto's have considerably more friction, so it makes up for it.

But snow tires tend to have much higher rolling resistance than performance tires, not to mention less traction. So the advantages and disadvantages kind of offset each other.

Yeah I think they are slightly heavier than the SE rims, boy some 02-04 I35 rims would look tight on a 02/03 Max. I love those I35 rims!
