Tail-light fit

New member here....
Are the lights from 2000 or 2001 max - the ones that have black background color fit the 2002-2003? I am not really fond of the silver look...
Thanks!

yes they do but you will also need the 2k/2k1 harnesses as well

you cannot use the harness of the 2k2/2k3 for the 2k/2k1 headlight housing

I assume you are talking from experience? Is it hard to do the swap?

the swap is easy, you just need the 2k-2k1 harness, plug and play. The ones with the black background is from a 2k-2k1 SE.

The only thing hard is taking the tail light out after removing the 4 screws in the back. (its hard because of the black silicone stuff they use to seal the lights in place)

use a blow drier to heat some of the silicone thing up so you can make it loose

No I have not done this before but remember reading a thread on it

What's all this talk about harnesses? I just bought my 2k1 taillights and plugged it right in. I didn't swap out a single piece.

I have a 2k2, I guess I was just lucky - it was just like plug 'n play. Disconnect my stock 02's and connect the '01s.

YES...2k-2k1 tails will fit perfectly in 2k2-2k3s (and vice versa). you MAY need a harness - you can get it from you local Nissan parts department.

OR, you could always tint/smoke your stock tails to yourself make them have the black trim - and save alot of cash (probably $150-$300).

i did this on my 2k (which had all red taillights that i didn't like - i prefered the black trim SE style as well). the end result looks stock, was easy, and cost next to nothing.

or...in no time i'm sure you will have a dozen or so guys posting here to offer to trade you. most would disagree with you and prefer your chrome tails!!

although, a trade would be kind of hard - unless it was local and didn't require an exchange through the mail.

if you decide to buy, don't buy from Nissan - way to expensive. check ebay and our for sale section here on the ORG. local or online junkyards are also a great resource.

Nice write-up! Do you have issues with black paint getting scratched easily, by any chance?

i didn't need any sort of harnesses either. i have a 2k3... an di got someone's 2k1 se tails... it plugged right up. only thing u gotta do is loosen the screws... and push the taillight out with a lot of force from the inside of ur trunk... you'll feel it begin to give way............
i guess u could use a blowdryer or something to loosen it...

no...no scratching. in my how-to i describe appling the clear coat spray. it serves two functions - to give the NiteShades spray tint a higher gloss AND to help protect the new tint from sratches. you shouldn't have a problem at all if you apply some sort of clear coat sealer.

Has anyone ever colored their lights the same color as their car? I wonder what that would look like? Anyone have pictures if done?
