problems after surviving the snow storm - help!

Hey everyone

This past weekend my area (Boston) was hit by a strong snow storm and we received about two feet of snow. My car, of course, was buried in snow and when I pulled my car out of my parking spot, my already worn tire burned like crazy. After driving and burning tires for two days now my car has three problems.

1. the power delivery isn't what it used to be like. Usually when I step on gas my car goes forward immediately. Now when I step on gas, the RPM goes up to 2000 then my car starts to move. It feels like I am towing a boat or something.

2. the car won't shift into 4th gear (automatic). It shifts up to 3rd. but that's it.

3. there is creaking sound in my car. like when i hit bumps and stuff.

Could you guys tell me what could be wrong with my car, and if the repair will be covered under the warranty? I currently have 32k on my car (2k2 SE).

As always, thanks for all your help.

i had the same problem on my 240sx that i used to own.....it went away after a couple of days... seemed like the tranny got overloaded or something...didn't want to pull at all...give it a couple days....maybe it'll go away.

when you say burning tires...exactly how long did you do this for...it is very possible that you screwed up your tranny...or fried the torque converter....but i wont jump to conclusions

Be sure your rear brakes aren't stuck like mine did... do you use the parking brake when parking? Check the parking brake handle, see if it feels extremely "loose" (only up to a certain point)... if it is your rear brakes might be stuck. Mine aren't stuck to the point of being unusable, but it has already taken a toll on my rear rotors & pads...

Why were you burning your tires at all?

Spinning tires don't grip. If you're in snow, and your wheels start spinning, you've got to back off the throttle. Easy does it in the snow, whether you're stuck, or not (maybe even especially if you're stuck.)

Good luck with the trans.

The creeking noise is prolly all kinds of frozen muck in your suspension. Could have a lot packed in your rims and around your breaks also. If you can find a warm place to thaw her out, then find a clean highway to test her out.

Check you Tranasmisison fluid Level. My friend had the same problem after he got stuck in snow. His fluid Shot out cause there was too much load on the tranny. So the level was very low and the car felt just like urs. He topped it off and no problems ever since. Good Luck.

I had tranny problems on my old car, a Camry. It turned out that the fluid was low after I drove like a madman from CT to NH (back in my more spirited/stupid days). Definatly check the fluid levels before anything
