Ok, I have a 2000 SE w/46000k on it. I went looking for aftermarket warranty companies and this is what I found:
1 Source Auto Warranty has a plan (The Diamond Plan) that covers bumper-to-bumber (less maintenance & regular wear items) up to 36 mos or 100,000k (whichever comes first) for $899.00.
Here's a short list of covered components:
Full coverage for:
Engine
Transmission
Transfer Unit (4x4)
Front/Rear Drive Axles
Electrical System
Fuel Delivery System
Braking System (Including ABS)
Front/Rear Suspension
Steering System
Heating/Cooling Systems
Air Conditioning System
Power Window/Locks
Power Seats
Digital Instrument Cluster
Sunroof
Audio System
Convertible Top Motor
Seals & Gaskets (Stand-Alone)
Wear & Tear
Has anyone used this company? If so, how was the service? I would like to know before I am locked in to this company.
Please reply with opinions both good and bad.
Thank you.

I have never purchased an extended warranty for a Nissan product. I have owned three new Maximas and two used trucks. IMHO, that $899 you give to the warranty company will be easy money in the bank for them. I had 100k miles on my last Max which was a 92 SE. The only thing that I had to replace besides one set of brake pads, struts and springs, is the starter. I currently have 133k miles on my 95 KingCab and the only thing that I have replaced is the shocks, ball joints, clutch and alternator. The alternator went at 199k miles. Unless you expect major problems from your car in the next few years, I would say save the money in escrow for car repairs.Originally Posted by billyman

I don't usually buy extended warranties. This was a good idea for my 1991 Accord and a bad idea for my 1996 Grand Caravan. So when I bought my 2002 Odyssey and 2002 Max I went shopping. I bought a 10 yr/100000 mile/$0 deductible Diamond plan for each vehicle. I have not had a chance to use it other than the flat tire I had this weekend (road hazard is part of the plan). But at least they still answer the telephone and sent a check to cover the repair!
I have never purchased this even though I usually put on 80-110 k miles in 3 years before I trade. My 01 SE did not have a single problem at 85K exept rotors which arent covered anyway.
Now with my wifes AWD Grand Caravan we got the extended 100k because..
well.. it is a Chrysler product.
It is insurance, and that is like Las Vegas. It is stacked in their favor as they are betting they will have to put out less than you gave them.
All the Cons. Report types give the max high marks in reliability.
Still, if you are hard on your cars, or it gives you a comfort level, go for it.

The last ext warr I purchased was on my 1990 240SX and I paid around $700 for it. It more than paid for itself when the tranny went out at 45k miles. The new tranny was a bit over $2000.
The way I see it, with the history the Max has w/bad coils, MAF sensors, etc., an ext warr might not be a bad idea. I made sure that this company (as well as the plan I bought) covers all emission sensors, coil packs, etc.
Now...if only we could get an ext warr on the paint
I hope it's not a waste of $$$.

The transmission should have been covered under the powertrain warranty until 60k miles.Originally Posted by billyman

Well, when I started buying cars years ago, I read somewhere (Consumer Reports?) that you shouldn't buy the extended warranty unless the car is rated as less reliable than average.
Consumer Reports rates the 2K2/3 Max as the top family sedan in reliability, IIRC. Now, the people on the org drive their cars hard and don't put up with little things going wrong, so they are a tough group to please, and that might skew your perception of the actual mechanical reliablity of the car.
That said, I wish I had bought one for my 97 Grand Caravan, but it surely wasn't highly rated in reliability! I don't have one for the Max. It's got 11K miles in a year on it, and I haven't had one problem with it.
So, I'm saying that, for the general population, the Max is a very reliable car, according to Consumer Reports. I guess the question is how that translates to the people on the org.

I used to be an F&I manager at a dealer and sold these plans. In my opinion they are worth it if you buy one for your new car or when it is still under factory warranty. Just one small thing broken in a car like the max will pay for these plans twice over. Lets face it..all cars machines with hundreds of moving parts and computerized systems. The odds that something will break with in 100K miles no matter what you drive are pretty good. If you throw it into your payment, it is $15-$20..less than the price of a tank of gas a month.

My factory warranty runs out in a few days. I was suddenly wondering if I should buy an extended, like Nissan's Security+Plus. I haven't had anything major break so far but only have 18k on it. It's a 2k1 max (I don't drive it very far!). I don't know the pricing yet, and there's these different levels (gold, silver, bronze).
Any advice, and how much they cost?
