How long did your REAR brake pads last??
i have 24k miles on my 2k3 max... and already my rear pads were worn... my fronts still have about half left..... seems a little quick to me.... any possible reasons for this? (and before any smartass comments.... i dont slam the brake all the time or ride it either...)... i've never had brakepads wear down so fast in any previous car... so i was just wondering if it's nissan pads or what.....

Smart @ss comments????????????
Here??????????
on this Forum???????????
I had 85k on my 01 and all pads were still ok.
Just did my wifes Grand Caravan at 87k fot the first time.
Fronts still had some left. Rears woud have been into the rotors in another 100 miles. In fact had to get new rear rotors.
I think auto manufactures have upgraded brakes (the front ones) over the years (as they do most of the stopping.)
Also with product liability, they may have engineered the rears to wear out first.
Lastly rear rotors are solid-vs. vented--Heat issue????????
Seriously, all kidding aside, it is probably that you have your seat reclined too much throwing off the weight bias which of course over taxes the rear brakes.

When the indicators went off, I was like, WTF!!! I didn't think that I would have to change them that soon. Crappy @ss OEM pads... Granted I drive my max like I stole it but I mean c'mon...

I changed my rear pads about three weeks ago at 32,000. They hadnt reached the sensors yet but when I changed my front pads about a month before and they said the rears would need changing soon. So I changed them before a trip to NC. That was fast as hell though.

I don't know if this is relative or not but I had my rear caliper seize (while driving mind you) and they had to replace the caliper, rotor, and all new pads. I am now experiencing some more problems with my back brakes. Some sort of releasing sound... if that makes sense. I think there are some problems with the brakes on our 5th Gens. My fronts are now shuddering and I am taking it into the dealer on Monday for service. n:

Now that I'm out of warranty, next break job will definetely not be OEM crap.

I can't complain if they go quick because i'm always drifting the max using the handbrake
You should see the look on people faces when they see this big car drift like a silvia.
28k miles and i'm not sure how long they have left. Never looked.
I'd say if you drive like a normal person and the rears go first, it must be because of the way the Brake distribution is designed on our cars. You notice that when you slam on the brakes the car doesn't nose dive like a lot of cars do.
The maxima has the system so that if you slam on the brakes in the middle of the turn the brakes will be applied in a way to prevent oversteer, basically it won't lock all 4 brakes evenly. And it's always working this way so your brakes won't wear down evenly. Unless you live in florida and you only have straightaways

The brakes will not change the way they work because of your springs at all. I think it measures steering angle in order to know how to apply the brakes to prevent the tail end to come out in a corner.

A lot has to do with how you drive and the type of driving city vs hwy. My cars usually have brakes last well over 100K miles. In fact my 95 Maxima had 125K and original brakes. My 2002 6 speed Max has 32K miles with brand new looking brakes.
Have a 2000 Grand Caravan with also new looking brakes at 50K miles. Now my motorcycles brakes wear fast but repeated stops from 180+mph do that.

i do about 50/50 hwy and city driving....... weekdays is lot of hwy driving and weekends is almost all city driving.....doesn't really matter i guess since i got my rear pads replaced under warranty (friend works at a nissan dealer =).............) but i was pretty surprised that my rears only lasted thsi long.... 24k is pretty short.....and i dont consider myself to brake too hard... no harder than i have with other cars... whose pads easily lasted 60k...

Mine has 85,000 on it and the rear are still going strong. I have actually never heard of rear pads wearing out that fast. Even though it has four-wheel disc brakes, most of the braking is done on the front. All the weight of the car is shifted that way because of the slowing momentum. Unless you do a lot of driving around in reverse and then stop really hard, I don't know why the rears would be wearing out like that...ha ha ha.
