I know that the insurance institute does similar crash tests, as does the NHTSA.

I don't know if they research real crash data to see if their tests are accurate, though. I would think they would need to perform the crash test 10 times with one car model (obviously with different cars!), and then somehow 'average' the results to come up with a true rating. Wouldn't THAT be expensive!

One crash shouldn't have that much weight.
