Replacement for spare tire lid in trunk

My spare tire lid (I don't know the exact name) has been warped/imploding/sinking in the trunk. Does any of you have replaced this? I looked at Weather Tech trunk liner, but it's wopping $100!! I was thinking of making this out of ply would myself, but I am afraid it is not worth the effort.

Mine has also warped under the weight of my subwoofer box. I have not done anything about it yet.

1/2" mdf. cut it the shape of the carpet...use that as a template. u might want to cut it 1-2 inches smaller all the way around, that way the wood isnt shown under the carpet. just an idea, good luck!

That's the idea, but it seems like a hassle. I don't have a garage or workshop. I wonder if Home Depot can cut this for me if I bring a template...

Home depot usually does not cut any mdf or particle board. Apparently, they don't want to be sued for their employees illnesses as a result of them inhaling whatever particles which are released into the air when these types of boards are used.

Lowes cut MDF board for me (that's what I used in my trunk, 3/4" MDF board, but I'm thinking of changing it with some substantially thinner board, since that MDF board is HEAVY and really adds to rear suspension sag)... Home Depot would have cut it too, but their people were a bunch of slackers, so I drove over to Lowes instead.
