Help with 2000 Maxima GLE

well, i just got this car for my mom, i traded in my 2002 Spec V.
there are some things that baffle me though.
i tried searching, but it says im not permitted.

im a regular on b15sentra.net

anyway,

The Service Engine Soon light is on, because the car was filled up while running, so is there any way that i can clear the code myself, like the procedure for the spec v. If not, i guess im goin to the dealer or autozone.

And when i get in the car, sometimes traction control is off. Other times its on. I dont turn it off or anything, its just off when i start the car. TCS Off & Slip are both lit up on the cluster.
Is this normal?

idk about traction control being off sometimes, but on a 2k/2k1 the ecu reset is as easy as disconnecting the battery overnight. i will caution you though, to only reset it yourself if you're absolutely certain you know the reason for the light...there could be another problem you don't know about, in which case its a good idea to have the code pulled. i believe only the negative terminal of the battery has to be disconnected for the reset.

No!!

If it's O2 sensor (could be) the light won't came off!! (already try)

Maybe for a gas gap though!!

If your TSC and SLIP lights are on, you have a problem with your TSC system

Bad coils are $500-700 if the dealer does it. Do it yourself for $300. They are easy. Anyway, powertrain doesn't cover them (only 3/36). Don't jump the gun - if you have a code go and get it pulled at autozone, although if it ONLY occured by filling up with your engine on (something I often do but have not had a code from this yet), then resetting will probably keep it off.

im gonna have to go to autozone. the thing is, i got this car on friday, the dealer said to come back if the SES light does not go out by monday. its a CPO car, so nothing should be wrong with it. if it turns out to be bad coils or something else, they are gonna get a lot of *****ing and complaining from me.

I have often filled my car while it was running and never had an SES light due to this. AAMOF I have never had an SES light for a loose gas cap. All the SESs I have had were real. 1 faulty fuel level sender and one 02 sensor.

I have heard that if the problem corrects itself the SES should auto-reset after 5 starts or somthing like that. However, that is just what I heard, so it may be some pure and utter BS.

Take the 2 minutes and get the code read.

dude...why were you filling up your car while it was running?

in maximas, if you don't close the gas cap until you hear at least 2 clicks, it can throw off an engine light too...

it's amazing they replaced the coils at that mileage...wow...

QUOTE - The Service Engine Soon light is on, because the car was filled up while running

I have filled up my Maxima with the engine running for 4 years. I've never had the SES come on once. That's 139,600 miles of gas. Doubt that caused it, unless the cap wasn't put back on tight.

Autozone sells Wells coils C1266 and C1267 for pretty cheap (~$50 each). Note those are 2000 part numbers. I installed those when mine went bad, they work fine so far.
