I haven't visited in a while and I notice that searching is now only for paid members. Unfortunately I am in a pinch tonight. I am trying to fix a burnt tail light and I purchased and installed the replacement bulb tonight. The new bulb works fine as a tail lamp when I turn on the lights, but the brake light does not activate. The other brake light (pass. rear) and the spoiler mounted 3rd both do. I checked fuses and they are in order. WHat else could this be?

You might have bought the wrong bulb. I don't know what size is used.

 

I bought the Sylvania 7443 Stop and Tail lamp. Listed in the computer at the store I went to as the in stock replacement. It sure seems like the right bulb, but yes that thought did cross my mind.

 

I had a similar issue simply because I did not push the bulb into the socket hard enough.
Those bulbs contacts come out of the bulb and are bent over. Once i had one that was bent over the wrong way, so compare that part to another known working bulb.

 

Just before you sent your reply I just went outside and re-seated the bulb again (I had tried this a few times already). This time thought I turned the blub around just for "****es and ha-ha's".

It worked! Yeah. Okay, now I can go fire up the snow blower and clear the driveway. Oh what a beautiful night here in the northeast.

I'm guessing you bought a single filament bulb, when a dual filament is needed?
