drifting the max!

haha tonight me and a friend went out driving and theres this patch of road that has some twisties in it so i decide to floor it through one and cut it hard... I got a 4 wheel drift out of it before i tapped the curb... Looked and everything was A OK on the car. it was awesome to do and we went back and looked at the spot and there were clearly 4 skid marks from the tires. I also left a pair of black strips across an entire intersection later that night...all this with just an auto max. I love this car!

I was almost like sideways, it was pretty cool. my rims do have a little road rash but it is barely noticeable on the outer lip of the rim, theyre just the ugly stock ones... I think the tire took the brunt of it...

glad the car's ok. only controlled slides i've been in are in the snow. lots and lots and lots of those, in the old car at least. I agree, it is very, very fun. Dont wanna do it in Max tho, need to keep this car in 1 very functional piece

Duh, some people are just plain stupid. If all you want to do with your car is drifting, get some cheap car like the 240SX.

RWD is almost a necessity if u want to drift. slides and dirfts are different.

You don't need RWD to drift. Drifting is done by pulling up on the emergency hand brake which locks the back tires. You keep on the gas pedal and when you want to stop drifting you release the break.

dude, whats REALLY fun is if you are going REAL fast when you turn sharp and use the ebrake you will drift THEN ROLL A FEW TIMES, maybe even hitting other cars. now THAT is fun if you REALLY want to have fun do it without your seat belt and somewhere where there are lots of trees.

Steal some McDonalds trays, roll your rear tires up on top of them, apply the e-brake tight to keep the wheels from rolling off the trays, and do all the drifts you want in a parking lot

Just watch out for smoke when the trays wear down... that'll leave a flat spot on your tires

You can drift the maxima very nicely. U don't just pull the hand brake and leave it up. You have to pull to get the tires to break loose, then when sideways you release the hand brake again. The car will still slide. Use our foot brakes to continue the drift, and handbrake as necessary.
I'll tell you what though, even though the max is as big as it is, once the tail starts to come out, it comes out fast and the car is very flat when it does so.

Start by practicing in a big parking lot in the rain.

hahahaahhahh i havn't posted in a long time and i wasn't planing on posting today.. but i just have to let you all in something...

first. you need RWD to drift...or AWD...(better grip)
second. pulling your e-brake is not drifting...(you can do that move to faint your car. thats about it..it also a necesary to give you some control of the car.)
third. some people are rich so i guess they can say 240 is cheap.

00sesoontobe good advice.. i don't advice things like this in public roads...
willse anothher good advice...y'all can learn stuff on the jap drift vid...

BTW. this is not to offend any of you..(just sharing my knowledge since i own a drift car AE86) my 86 is my fun car (agressive on this sucka)and my max is my chillin car..(with ladies..gentle)

Then you are familar with Intial D and the Gum tape death match with the EG FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CIVIC. Not that Initial D is the Bible for real life vehicle control, but it does lend itself as an interesting source. There are ways to "drift" anything, the key to the drift is controlling the slide which can be done in a FWD vehicle with left foot braking and throttle control. Though most people who drive FWD cars lean more towards "grip" vs "drift" style of driving. Not bashing just informing....Don't beat the snot out of your 86, you are one of the lucky to own a GTS.

I am constantly trying to get the rear to step out on my 2K max without using the e-brake, and have no luck. Even with the rear sway bar, the rear just sticks like glue.

I enter a corner hot and then lift off the throttle, and it should oversteer, but doesn't. This has always worked in my other front wheel drive cars. One quick hit of the e-brake, and voila, instant oversteer!

Maybe the 50-70 lbs of stereo equip in the trunk doesn't help!

For those who can oversteer at will in your maxima without using the ebrake, how do you do it? My car just doesn't seem to want to.

Poor_max_owner has the right idea... Guys, I hate to break it to you, but pulling the ebrake just isn't drifting... Drifting is more the art of steering with your back wheels by accelerating/letting off, in conjunction with actually steering. In a FWD car, its simply known as skidding. Not to say that isn't fun but its just not the same.. Yeah you can get the car sideways, but only when you are going fast enough to break traction.. while real drifting OTOH, can be done going 2 mph, rotating around a signpost until you get bored.

Drifting is ricer terminology for oversteer, which can be achieved in a Maxima. Oversteer could be induced in a FWD car by lifting the throttle while cornering at the limits of tire adhesion.

You guys are crazy if you say that you can't drift a FWD car. In Japan there are a LOT of FWD cars that have drift competitions as well. I'll have to look up some vids, but they are light cars such as the civics and celicas, and use the e-brake on/off, along with other stuff to drift. And believe it or not, they actually take the corners at higher speeds than RWD cars. It's not common because RWD is just naturally easier, but FWD is done a lot professionally as well. I'll post links to vids when i find some.

drifting is a new fancy way of saying skidding and sliding. it is just a CONTROLED slide

from http://www.urbandictionary.com/

highly complex driving manuver done by shifting the weight from the front wheels (done by dropping the clutch, pulling parking break etc.) then turning the steering wheel to make the front wheels parallel to the inside of the corner. usually done in rwd cars.

gkstar..thx, i am very fortunate to own one befor the hype came up..

soonerfan...that sounds like it came out of the initial d vid..hahaha.

max2000jp...don't try it...if you do..make sure your in a controlled area...

there is some FWD that they take drifting..but its actually more like griping..but if you read some jap magz..they preffer RWD of AWD..they know the capabilities of the FWD..sofar the most seen FWD for me is the new TSX acura..suposedly it has a good handling..

well for everyone else..i drift my GTS AE86 and when i try my max..i just get scared..so i stick w/my rolla in drifting..BTW it is another term for controlled slide..except that it takes a lot of learning to controll your car..and for some car..it is not advisible to swing it everywhere..

well good luck w/ everyone trying to drift or slide..just be safe..peace

I'm in qatar and all we have is sand and hot pavement. who could ask for more? and yes, that is abuse of a government vehicle...but it's fun to do. we were tearing through the mud too after the rain the other night. i guess there are perks to being in the military.
