K & N filter

I am considering getting a K & N filter for my 03 GLE. I was wondering if this could possibly blow my maf. What are the pluses and minuses for changing a stock filter to a K & N or other aftermarket filter? Will I see a big difference? Are there any other brands of filters that are as good as K & N? How much do they cost and are they easy to clean? Thanks.

No problems at all with the maf for sure. Also, why don't you just save up for a frankencar intake or injen intake. The k&n filter costs about $50.

had a K&N in my GLE for 25,000 miles or so, no problems. just dont over oil it. Far as gains, just the panel filter wont give much, but doin a GAB along with the panel filter will give some gains, similar to an intake I believe

PepBoys has a $5 discount on their k&n filters, but I don't think they carry one for maxima. When I went to check they said no, but I will verify it myslef next time I go there.
Also, there is a coupon $20 off $100 (and $50 off $250) floating on the internet.

Ghetto Air Box: a few versions of it around, basically it involves cutting away part of the air box before the filter, which allows air to enter more easily and in greater quantities. My version of the GAB is posted on my homepage. Feel free to PM me if you have additional questions.

I finally got the coathanger GAB to work for me. Sounds great, and it's surprisingly secure if you do it correctly. Took me about six coathangers to get it as secure as I wanted it though. Now I can't move it at all.

i just picked up the K&N recharger kit (about $10 at local parts store). it is cleaner and oil i guess. supposed to bring my filter "back to life"!

maybe not a bad idea for anyone using one. i'll likely clean my soon - and i'll be sure NOT to over oil, of course!

I'm on my 2nd K&N (I change mine each year, rather than clean it) and have yet to have a problem with my MAF sensor.

wow, that could get expensive! at $50 a pop.

this cleaner stuff is supposed to recharge it so you don't have to toss it.

not to mention they come with a "million mile" warranty - so you know if i made to last. i'm sure most people never toss theirs - much less every year!

The next time you want to toss yours, why not just send it to me. I'll clean it up and use that sucker.

Heh, I can't claim responsibility for the design or the writeup. But I do agree that it sounds, and is pretty cool.

Here's the link to the writeup: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=266911

I bought my K&N panel filter for the stock airbox at Advance Auto Parts. It was $45.
