The manual says quite clearly that the Bose CD player is not meant for playing CD-R/W's. That said, I can play them on my '02 without difficulty.

so what is the best thing to do at this point? is there any fix to it? or did i just pick up an unlucky non-cd playing GLE?

here are a few things you can try.... First try different cd-r Media. Sometimes bad media will not play in the cd headunit, esp if u get some really cheap brand. If that doesnt solve your problem then try getting a cd lens cleaning unit. Run that a couple of times, and if that doesnt work... Then Take it to the dealer.

My Bose play CD-R disks without any problem also. Take it to the dealer and have
it replace but don't mentioned you've been playing burnered disk on it. Good luck

how much do they usually charge for a replacement? my warranty only covers powertrain. is it worth replacing or is the fee too much to replace if its not under my warranty. because if they are going to charge a lot i might as well go aftermarket with a better headunit.

might as well go aftermarket if you have to replace it and are not under warranty.. Another idea is give ebay a shot.

my first Bose headunit played CD-Rs without a problem for a year and a half and then i had to get it replaced for the driver side speaker problem.

fast forward a little......

when i got my 3rd headunit put in it played fine for a little bit and then it stopped playing CD-Rs and now it doesnt play CDs all together. my 4th one is on order.

if you are close to your warranty running out make sure you express your concern about this happing again. if i have to get a 5th headunit im gonna do something about it.

Take it back to the dealer. It happened to me on my 2k1 AE, and I told them I had used burnt CDs, and because it didnt say in my manual no to use them, they HAD to replace my deck! SO play that game, it worked for me!
