Who has painted their Stock rims???

This is one of the rims I began to paint.
For some reason the paint doesn't want to stick too well to the wheels.
Do I have to sand it with a fine grit??? I will be driving on one black rim it seems for now. It looks great in my opinion. THIS PIC AFTER 1 COAT.

it looks like you did not take the tire off and you got paint all over them as well. there goes $800 wheels down the drain.

I think he means that it looks like you got overspray on the tires themselves (or maybe its just the glare or you use "tire shine" stuff on the tires. Either way, a few questions regarding your problem of non-sticking paint:
1. Did you clean rims with brake cleaner to remove brake dust. Soap won't do it. Paint doesn't like to stick to brake dust.
2. Did you use a primer before applying a topcoat?
3. What kind of paint did you use....

I like the black, but prefer a flat black (not gloss)...my buddy has his stock Impreza RS rims painted black and uses them in the winter.....

I used an Armerall Spray that claimed it removes all road dirt and grime, so "why not" i think to myself. Didn't work too well.

Well the picture is only one coat.

I used a Quick Dry Paint. Seemes to look good with the lights off. LMAO!

I wanted something that would make my car look better in the night. Personally I don't care what the Fu(K they look like in the day.

Tomorrow I will Finish the "Project" I think. Letting the first Rim Dry in the Basement with A clear coat and 3 layers of paint.

Looks fine.

Maybe I'll get a few " Black Rims!" ---At night of course.

I am going to refrain from making any "Polak" jokes.

Quit while you are ahead. That wheel is ruined. You didn't prep the surface properly and now you are paying the price. I, too have attempted to paint wheels and even with the right prep work, expensive paint, etc, it still came out poorly.

I will give it 30 days before half of the paint on the face of that wheel has chipped off.

Get a new wheel from a junkyard and leave the other three alone.

I'd take asu174's advice and leave the other 3 rims alone. The paint wont stick and will chip off like crazy.

you really need to use a primer before putting on the gloss paint...and none of this "quick dry" ****....you need to get an epoxy or resin-based wheel paint that will be tough and won't chip....

The method SLIZAN used (see link above) looks like the best way to go (except for the tire machine, of course!)

It's too late. You didn't prep it properly. You can put a zillion coats on if you want, it will still chip off like crazy.

Don't ruin the other three wheels. You can probably find one replacement wheel for $150 or so.

By the way, you never answered.....did you just use regular old "quick dry" spray paint? If so.......

You guys can go eat a donkey **** cause I like the night look. You have no right telling me I am a moron for doing this. It was my option and I like it.
If you don't like it don't look at my pictures and don't read this thread.
