Colored bulbs under clear corners

I want to put clear corners on my max cause the yellow and red ones look like crap against the white body but don't want to use white bulbs to avoid legal issues. I haven't seen clear corners lit up at night with red and amber bulbs underneath so my question is - Does the corner lens scatter/diffract the light enough so it doesn't look like just a bright bulb under a clear lens? All the pics posted seem to have white bulbs underneath.

I think with white light bulbs, you should be okay. Just don't put blue light bulbs, cuz you'll be seeing in your rear mirror.

mine came with colored bulbs included. they look white at daytime and at night the light spreads all over the plastic so it becomes red/orange. pretty sweet.

Where did you buy them? The ones sold by custommaxima only come with the back bulbs included.

Another option is to leave the bulbs out all together. I did. I tried a few different sets of lights and didn't like any of them. I decided to leave them out instead of spending another 15 - 20 dollars in bulbs until I found ones I liked. The amber bulbs are easy but trying to find a pair of red that didn't look pink at night was difficult. Although I am sure someone here on the org could give you a brand and model number that looks red. I just got tired of buying bulbs.

Checkout autodynamic.com. Got the reds (194/168s) and they look pretty decent at night. They also have 194-168 Red LEDs. About 12 bucks for 4 LEDs. That's pretty good.

I'd do it but I don't want to get ticketed if I get pulled over.

I've seen pics of Polarg M20 194 Hyper Amber up front and Polarg M21 194 Red in the rear. Look real nice. I don't know of a Red bulb for the rear that produces a look closer to stock at night in clear sidemarkers. Not sure if this place is the cheapest, but check out http://www.shopresponse.com/bl_hybrid.html

My local shop was able to order these pretty cheap, but I never installed the bulbs. The clears I received from custommaxima.com were of low quality so I shipped 'em back. Still trying to decide if I want to give them another chance.

I use the 194 Red/Amber inverted ones at Led 194 Link. The light it emits is not a beam so it covers a wider area and looks fine. Bought 3 sets of each and haven't had to replace one in three months so far.

I am not sure if they changed the side markers but the ones that I ordered a few weeks ago were awesome just as good as the OEM but clear. I though that the quality was great. I have had other clears on previous vehicles and they were lacking but these are nice. You might want to call and talk to Steve and ask him if they changed brands.

yes...at least mine do. i have clear corners off ebay and standard cheap yellow bulbs from the auto parts store in the front. the lens scatter the light enough so at night you can hardly tell they are clears.

same with the red in the rear. big problem there is the clear lens give it a pinkish tint that i hate. i've tried yellows in the rear = thought it looked lame. i've tried standard cheap whites in front and rear = didn't care for that either - just looked like i had busted lens or something.

i know several guys have used the red LEDs in the rear mentioned before. i will probably look into those soon.

i may just remove the bulbs altogether also - but that would make that time i spent wiring my corners to blink with my turn signals a waste of time! oh well!

.....and for the 2000 post/ time , the rear markers are designed in such a way, internally, that they will not light up the entire marker , like the fronts do, no matter what bulb you put in it .

Really? This is good to hear. I was annoyed because I sent them back because one of the lenses had a really ugly seal with metallic flakes and yellow discolored glue in it. Steve said "These are just cheap parts we get from China, they're not OEM, so you can't expect them to be perfect...I can send you another set, but I can't guarantee they'll be better - these all look fine to me." It's like he wouldn't acknowledge there was an ugly seal on one.

On top of that, the one with the ugly seal was the only lens painted with cheap scuffed up chrome paint on the back...almost as though it was returned and they repainted it to hide wear.

I still have store credit so given your experience, maybe I'll give 'em another shot.

sorry...i must of missed the first 1999 times that was discussed!

mine seem to light up fine/completely/evenly/etc. just pink - i assume like you said because of the way they are make and/or the nature of the light that the cheap red bulbs emit.

i know i have read several guys saying they use red LEDS in the rear that DO NOT look pink though...i would love to know what exactly they have and where they got them.

I never thought of just leaving the bulbs out. Did you put anything on the plugs to keep out moisture? Is there any chance of getting pulled over cause the lights are out?

I've heard many variations on whether or not white bulbs are illegal in the clear corners: Are they illegal to have or can the side markers be clear? I saw an Audi the other day with a clear side marker, dunno if he just had a missing color lens, or if it was stock clear.

Can't just leave the bulbs "out" legally....Cars have to have front and rear side reflectors OR lights (amber front, red rear)...Since the maximas do not have wraparound headlights/taillights with amber/red assemblies, the side marker lights have to do this job, legally.

So in that case, regular side markers = legal
white lenses with amber/red bulbs/leds = legal (I think)
white lenses with no bulbs = get ready for a ticket..

I had amber/red LEDs which put out a great color at night. Only problem was quality, because they kept burning out every month or so...
