Big Depreciation of maximas in just past few months..

We got our beloved 2k about 5 months ago........at that time they were asking an avg 17+ ...19 at CarMax and rarely did you find one for around 15...(we paid a little less then that..got hooked up big).... well that discount just caught up to us.......go to cars.com now and you find 00 GXEs for 11 grand and 00-01 SE, GLES for under 15 with around 30k miles.....I even saw an 02 SE with 33k miles for under 15.............DAMN. If only we waited we could have gotten an 02...oh Man....
the prices I speak of are in the DC/Baltimore area..........(DC metro area is suprisinly cheap for cars in regards to private party sales).

Well on a good note.......with the drop in value we will be able to afford another Maxima sooner....

Just bought a 2k SE 5-spd with 60k miles in SF, CA for $11k last month - this was from a Nissan dealer, no less.

The car's been great and I had money left on the table to put some nice 17x8 wheels and Pirelli Nero Zeros on it.

Depreciation is good, as long as you're on the receiving end...

I got my 2k SE for 10k in August. It's worth probably like 8.5k now.

Yup, resale sucks *****.

I too am looking forward to the price drop. Maybe I can swing a 2k3 TE next year for like 14k

I just don't know why some 1999 maximas are like $12,000, some 2001 maximas are $15,000, and then 2003's at $17,000. That's crazy and the 2003s have HIDs and a 3.5L engine. That sucks!

Supply and demand. Same reason none of us pay anywhere near sticker for these cars when they're new. That, and the bottom has dropped out of the used car market due to rediculous incentives to buy/lease new, and oversaturation of the used car market as leases are turned in.

Now is the time to buy used.

And how is that? If you will sell your car later, you will get less $$ for it. The car you want will also cost less, but that difference equals to depreciation on your car. Since Maximas depreciate more steadily in the first 5 yrs ( $3-2K/yr) vs 5+ yr old cars ($1K/yr), it really makes no sense to wait for the car you want. Of course, given your financial situation remains the same.

Thats a great price........we got ours at Manhiem as well. about 5 months ago....35k miles GLE w/merdian pkg....got it for 14,200...after inspection and a little something for my friends trouble we paid 14,800. Still well below even the private party sale price...

for sure going to go back there to get the next one...!!

Oh and regards to other the question........about how lower prices means I get the car faster......my wife drives the 2k (loves it and says she won't give it up unless she gets a pilot).......I have a legend as my daily driver....so basically in a year or two when we got more cash to get another car I can get one sooner because I will still be dealing with spending the same ammount of money..( i got no car I could sell for cash) .so if the cars are cheaper I can get one sooner
..i would not sell the legend..I would just keep it as my daily....
